I remember finding this album sitting in a college radio studio in 1991, and using it for a class assignment. Never knew this band prior. Major underrated band. They should have been big for the time.

I've gotta say for a self-admitted 'lazy git' imagine how much more vast his output could've been? He seems to be one of those guy's that just oozes melody..in both his singing and playing. Lots of minor chords but done in a happy way, seen him and 2 other blokes calling themselves The lemonheads in dublin 2 years back, played the whole 'it's a shame about ray' album. Great gig. Everything he does looks so effortless..sign of a man that was 'born to do it'.

@@damotheman4196 Yours is the best description of Evan Dando I've read. He's a guy who was "born to do it." He probably has shoeboxes full of songs that are amazing. I've seen him play live twice, once when I was 14 years old at a local college in New England. He did the expected Come On Fell and It's a Shame stuff. The second time I saw him it was 2007 at a bar in Boston called the Middle East. He tore the roof off the place, it was SOOOO godamn loud.

@@demerit5 Thanks man i appreciate that. I was obviously in a big Dando mood when i wrote this, but i stand by it..the melody just always stands out! Pop isn't a dirty word and Evan did it perfectly. To your point about the loudness i'll never forget when the first riff of 'Rocking stroll' broke out it was WAAY louder than the support and the place lapped it up!! Its a great talent to be able to cut through noise with melody and that's what sets him apart in my opinion. Thanks man, always nice to hear a fellow music lovers opinion👍

@@damotheman4196 At 1:51min....yes, that's pushing that thing effortless up the hill. Dando ever and still has a lucky hand when picking songs to cover. Dando too has a great skill to make his guitar talk, only one that -for me- can do that in a similar way is Jeff Tweedy.

@@damotheman4196 Did see Evan for a third and forth time May 2022 in Germany. First an second time were some 5 years ago. I like it the most when he doesn't commit to expectations and takes the freedom to play all the stuff that comes across at the moment. one thing I have to contradict you: He seems not to have shoeboxes full of songs and is more struggling with writing new ones. I read a interview where he stated in a very humble way that he doesn't consider himself the greatest songwriter that walked the earth.

There's a crow flyin' down from over the hill Cracked paint on my window sill Each morning broke provides a girl Forget my evening feeling world When day gets dark, it seeps into my skin And I recall the spark that kept me sane Can't talk to you, it's plain Won't start to name my pain Or forget I don't know why You tugged the corner of my eye Movin' up the neck of my guitar I turn the lamp off, I see where you are Your one light slowly fading in my mind The furthest from my head Half the time Simple point too bright to leave the sky You're dissolving in my eye, in my eye My closed eye Half the time Mountain Dew and Marlboro while I stew over all I owe My eyes set wet against the breeze Guide the sun into the trees Where squirrels are holding acorns in their teeth I can't see into why I made you leave Your one light slowly fading in my mind The furthest from my head Half the time A simple point revolving in my sky You're dissolving in my eye

any ideas on the meaning? my idea (especially after watching the video) is that he's talking about his waking self and sleeping self (though i'm not sure who is whom). the video opens with the closing of an eye... and then that begins evan's "time", where he sings about how "each morning broke provides a girl, forget my evening feeling world." throughout the video, there is also the blind man guided by two women, who i imagine is evan's other self, maybe the daylight self, that is "blind" in the sense that he cannot see the same world evan sees... the song is mainly about how those two sides can't meet (even though they do at the end of the video). some other lyrics that hint at this: "can't talk to you, it's plain, won't start to name my pain." again, the inability to communicate... one of the most beautiful lines, to me, is "a simple point revolving in the sky, you're dissolving in my eye, my closed eye." that's a really cool way to describe dreaming and forgetting...

Love this song. Also, I can't figure out if each "your" or "you're" is a grammatical thing, or intentionally grammatically correct. The Lemonheads are famous for turning a phrase, so I'm still not sure after all these years. It makes a difference to how you interpret the song. The song is so great, regardless!
