I think Portuguese asked for a different r than the french.. Por (english r) Rato (h) Otário (spanish r) And I don't think there is one for the French r correct me though

It depends on the variant of portuguese, in European Portuguese the R in "Rato" or the double R in "Carro" sound just like the french R

@@dominnique2773 Nah, many of us can, at least for some words like croissant anyway. There are many sounds that can't be replicated though as our throats form in a different way during childhood so if you don't grow up with both you'll be physically unable to have perfect pronunciation.

*Brezel I am german, it's actually pronounced with a b and a long e right after the b. And the german r is actually something inbetween english and french, if you ask me. As a side note, I can't really pronounce the English version of r, I always end up with something that is w-ish in its sound sith a bit of an u and r.

@@oldpugs9261 make sense. The problem it’s with English R. I speak Portuguese and our R’s here sound just like both Spanish and French R’s (varies depending on the word). So I spoke from my perspective and completely forgot that side of English (which it’s super bizarre considering I’m typing in English 😅). English R sounds more like a growl and we have trouble pronouncing it too.

I'm Hungarian and I felt SO proud when I learned how to pronounce the French R. It's considered a speech defect in Hungary, kids spend a lot of time with a logopedist to correct it.

I grew up speaking English, but I could never get the hang of the English r sound. French is so much easier (luckily I live in Canada so I can speak French in public when I don’t want to explain that I’m an adult who still sounds like a 5 year old)

In the Netherlands there are 6 different sounds for the R, depending in which dialect you are. Some even combine different R sounds in the same word

hi, im russian! and in russian there's only the spanish-like r :) though some people may pronounce it like the french one because of speech defects that come from them not being able to learn to position their tongues right as a kid when learning pronunciation, it _counts_ as a defect but it's quite normalized, unless you're a tv speaker or something french Rs are a thing, but normally and by the rules of the language it's the spanish R, so when learning russian you need to head out for the spanish r. we call people who can't pronounce R right картавые, they form approximately 10% of the country's population! have a nice day :)
