Performed at Local Vocals open mike night in Hope's Cafe on 14 June 2024.
During their halfway break I asked the ladies to see if they'd like to do some songs I brought in, and they had a bit of a sing around my piano to see if they could do them, and to pick a key. And we had a bit of help from Mike on his guitar, and George on his cahon.
1. The Letter (by the Box Tops) sung by Devi and Eric. Devi, who doesn't read sheetmusic is singing it from the my sheetmusic you can see on the screen.
2. (2:11) Summertime (from Porgy and Bess by Gershwin) sung by Devi. A bluesy version I got from Dusty Flatts at the Hillbilly Hoot. I only have a chord chart to play this from, we transposed it up 2 semitones, the on-screen version you can see has been transposed to match.
3. (5:22) Sing (Sing a Song) (by Joe Raposo for Sesame Street) sung by everyone in the room, lead by Sonya and Devi. This was supposed to be in G, but I forgot I'd left the piano in transposition mode, so it was actually in A. Luckily Mike, on the guitar next to us, worked out what I'd done wrong and transposed on the fly. The on-screen score has been transposed to match.
4. (8:31) I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing (by B Backer, B Davis, R Cook & R Greenaway, used in Coca Cola commercials in the 1970s), sung by everyone in the room, lead by Sonya and Devi. This was in G, I turned transpose off on the piano beforehand.
Sound is from my mike just in front of the group of us. The room is quite echoey, and it's hard to get a good recording in there.
