Thanks for this. The first version of this video was actually 5 minutes longer but I wasn't sure if it was going to be too long so I cut off a lot of it 😅

Great piece Poppy. We all get very pulled in those stories of people who say they retired early and how their lives became simpler and better. Good point you made when you said they actually just a made a carrier change😊. Making youtube videos is a job!! Thank again for your insight!

I loved this video. You are so right - Passive income is mostly not passive and at the very least has an upfront amount of work and many times a lot of maintenance work. As a new KZitemr myself, I notice how much work goes into creating content (even if it's "just" one video a week). Real Estate falls into that category for me, too. Everyone talks about how easy it is to make money with real estate and rental properties. Well, the research for finding a good deal alone takes time and then as the owner you have to maintain the property, coordinate to get repairs done and look for renters. Nothing is truly passive. 💰

I'm glad I'm not alone in thinking creating content is such a work especially if you still need to maintain your full-time job (which applies to most people starting a KZitem channel).

@@PoppyDontree definitely! I also have a full time job and many times when I come home it's too dark to film and my energy is too low to be very creative and think of video ideas or scripts. So most of my KZitem work is done on the weekends. And I'm sure many other youtubers can relate.

You can also pay a property management company to do all this work for you, I know because I worked with a guy who owned 4 properties, three of which he rented out. The only work he ever did was call the property management company evry so often to check on things.

Poppy, I love your channel. You're really an inspiration. While watching your video, it made me think of true wealth - caring for ourselves including our finances, living our dreams like moving country, and having close relationships. I think you are a great role model based on your channel.

All through life you will meet people who tell lies either innocently through lack of knowledge or because they always lie to impress everyone.. When you talk financial matters with anyone you will find the vast majority clueless and the few that have some knowledge often have a personal Agenda... I find the best person to listen to and whose advice to follow is yourself.. And the reason being that you have to take the responsibility if it doesn't go well.. I am twice your age so I have History

This is a great video. I must say, I was very much sucked into these narratives a couple of years back. I actually did withdraw from my PhD at Cambridge and started a successful business that now brings in £30k+ profit per month, but it was a complete fluke. It could just as easily not have happened. But it's only really people with this kind of income who can seriously capitalise on the compounding effects of investment. I look back on before I started my business, when all I could afford was to put coins into my Vanguard account, and I feel sorry for that earlier version of myself. I really believed I just needed to chip away at investing for over 20, 30 years that would make me a millionaire. I am very fortunate that I was able to save a £300k deposit in one year and buy a house in cash. That means I can retire early if I want to, but I might as well keep going as I'm only in my early 30s. So much financial advice is bogus and normally people need to get very lucky to reach financial independence at a pre-retirement age.

This is amazing story, thanks for sharing! If you don't mind me asking can you share how long it took you from a point of starting to earning 30k+ in profit? And me too I was saving every penny when I was earning 14k a year hoping i will be "well off" in 30 years. But I do realised now that what really helps improving my quality of life is both making more money and living below my means. Both are equally important but people tend to focus more on the cutting down spending than making more money.

@@PoppyDontree Hi Poppy, Thanks for your kind reply! So, it took around 12-18 months to go from making a couple of grand a month to having consistent £30k+ months (some much higher, some nearer to £20k - it's a business with some seasonality). It was the fear of god that make me work so hard at the business. I was a PhD student on a scholarship when, in my first year, my husband got diagnosed with advanced cancer. We'd been living off of his salary and my measly studentship before that. That was the moment I decided I needed to make myself financially independent. I thought I'd make it when I was making £2-3k per month, but it just kept growing and growing. I got an angel investor 18 months into the business who bought a 10% stake for £125,000. We're about to get our next investor for 3x that price now. It's been such a wild ride and we've only just passed the 2.5-year mark. Oh, and my husband is in remission and just quit his job to run the business alongside me. Crazy, crazy ride. Income is everything when it comes to financial freedom, although the discipline of saving and getting into those habits is super healthy. I am glad I've seen both sides to it.

Hi Poppy. I have a few things I would pick you up on this video. 1. Your house I would not put down as an asset, you have live somewhere, so selling your house means you need to find somewhere else to live. 2. You do not need to sell any part of a share portfolio, if you are receiving 4% in dividends, although you should be looking for more than 4% in dividends if you know what you are doing. 3. Do not go anywhere near Financial Advisers, they not interested in your welfare, only there commission. 4. I love your hair, it suits you Poppy.

In my life I have been earning biggest money while doing things I really loved. Unfortunately, the political system of my cuntry is the political crisis :( So as many others I lost everything several times. I remember short but happy times (I really loved what I was doing and also was good paid for that) with warm in my heart.

Salute @Poppy Dontree. What is it called when a professional athlete decides to stop playing said sport? “Retirement” from professional sports work! F.I.R.E. is still the most practical path in many cases. Do you agree with my statements?
@PoppyDontree
Жыл бұрын
When someone is retired from a sport, you know they're going to be doing something else. If someone says I'm retired from 9-5 job but now I'm doing something else to make money then that's fair enough. The problem is the message. People sees retirement in traditional way where you don't work and telling people you're retired (in a traditional sense) when you're still working is misleading. Interested to know if you're pursuing F.I.R.E and if so what got you into it? 😊

Yea big difference from a person who is making a million a year vs a person who's net worth is 1 million. That team has many good tips but yeah big difference so its a little dishonest in the way the leader tells that to its student, " yea!!! you are a millionaire!!!" but in reality the student net worth adds up to a million dollars. Womp Womp..

How to make a small fortune from owning a football club. Start off with a large fortune. 😁 Elon Musk is nowhere near as rich as the rich lists say he is. These lists are just counting the current value of the shares he owns. If he tries to liquidate them, as we have seen recently, his wealth plummets.
