I saw the Clash at a one-off gig at Rafters Manchester in 1978. Joe had apparently gone down with a throat infection and the band had postponed an earlier concert the day before. Myself and a few friends shared a few drinks with him and the band before going on stage. No airs and graces with Joe as with other musicians at the time. We were all part of the same scene. Definitely a man of principle. RIP Joe Strummer.

In 78 they did the 'out on parole ' tour which i seen at Glasgow Apollo, was my first gig as a 16 year old. The Specials (the Coventry aka )and American outfit Suicide were the support. I seen both nights of their London Calling tour at the same venue. I also seen them being bundled into that police van at the first gig. ...I'll die happy 👍

@@heathcornbeef Ooooooo, tough guy. Oh please don't get angry to the point of violence, please spare us that. Nothing makes me angry like the bitch that shot my best friend in the back of his head and then me and his 19 year old daughter had to watch him lay in a hospital with half a head for two months dying the most horrible death you could imagine. So take your knight in shinning armor act on the road, because I got bad news for you, there's women out there that need their teeth knocked out of their heads as much as anyone else, and the reason they skate through life and get away with what they do is because of idiots like you. If you like I'll have my buddies daughter set you straight about women and how evil they can be, unlike you she's dealt with reality and knows better, she knows not to fall for their malarkey the moment they start squirting tears.

If it hasn't already been noted by another commenter(s), his earlier band that he was in before forming The Clash was called The 101ers -- some songs that appeared on their "Eglin Avenue" album would get rerecorded onto subsequent Clash albums ("Jail Guitar Doors" being one such track, I believe)

I’m interested in the dichotomy between those iconic British pre punk & 1st Generation punk & the 2nd Gen of more working class & /or uneducated acts of 1979 - on which the England based popular tabloid & weekly music press dubbed “ Oi ! “ of which 1st wave east end heroes SHAM69 were often attributed as godfathers then destroyed by that medias’ Far Right Labelling & subsequent fringe followers .
