I felt the same that Indian people still love Buddha once I visited India 20 years ago. People never speak against what Buddha taugh, they have comic books telling story of Buddha teaching in English. But people don't allow to have Buddha images in their house as the reason that Buddha taught man to leave family or property, they just get wrong teaching actually Buddha taught man to see suffering of life and the way out till man got enlightenment then decided to follow Buddha and left family life to practice full time, this made family lost the man but for the Buddist family people will understand the man go for his higher level of mind or soul and they will feel very appreciated and to encourage him. Interesting. this schedule is slightly different than what I experienced. I stayed in Ajahn Chah monasteries and we always meditated for an hour first thing in the morning and then chanted. Then alms round after the sun came up while lay people did chores. Then a little dhamma talk before the meal then after you can speak to the Ajahn if you want. then you had to cleanup the food and stuff but after that you had basically the whole afternoon to do whatever you want. I would usually walk through the forest or go on a jog. at 6 you can have tea and allowables and at 7 you had a long dhamma talk and chanting and an hour of meditation. Sundays were different because lots of Thais would come on that day and the schedule was focused more on the meal and a single long Dhamma talk and long meditation. Then Mondays was like a lax easier day.

Everyone's karma is different. When conditions ripen, individual consequences come. Thus, commendable that you have a good intention in life to look forward to. Nobody (no human) actually knows what will happen to you and speak for you or about you in twenty year's time. Importantly, you know a positive seed is already planted in your mind, in wanting to be ordained. "Sadhu" [Factually, one of Buddha's disciples was ordained when he was aged.] Thus, do not be disheartened by the opposing views of others. Take care of your health now, make plans and take actions as you see opportunities coming.

Do it now, maybe for a week or a month or so, to try if you enjoy or not because it is not easy being a forest monk and especially nobody knows how long they will live. I don't know... I was getting a certain strange vibe from these monks, like they are simply living their lives in a rote manner, rushing through the paces of their routines without much stopping to appreciate the moment. No warmth, no smiles, no real interactions even with each other, much less with the people in the lay community who they depend for alms. I'm starting to research where to study meditation and perhaps receive ordination in Thailand. I was already ordained as a Zen Buddhist monk almost 30 years ago, but stepped away from the life in the temple to create one in society. Now after all these years I'm revisiting this calling I feel inside to meditate and live a quiet life of contemplation. The life of a forest monk is attractive to me, however some places resonate more than others. I understand it's not about the ego, yet finding a place and teacher that resonates in one's soul is important. This would probably not be the place for me . . .
