O light of Orthodoxy, teacher of the Church, its confirmation, O ideal of monks and invincible champion of theologians, O wonder-working Gregory, glory of Thessaloniki and preacher of grace, always intercede before the Lord that our souls may be saved.

March 27, 2016 The Sunday of St. Gregory Palamas This is a fascinating and very detailed life of St. Gregory Palamas. What a great saint. No wonder his tropar begins: "O Star of Orthodoxy...." Pray for us, St. Gregory.
Wonderful to learn the history of Orthodoxy, and that monastic were not spared suffering for the church.

AnastonBlues Before the documentary: "Holy Metropolis of Veroia, Naoussa & Campania" (Greece) "Saint Gregory Palamas, 650 years from his death" After the documentary: "Right after his death, he was honoured as a saint. A severe polemic on behalf of papists left his memory in the margin." "For many centuries western printing shops were denying to print anything that had to do with his name." "In their libels against Orthodoxy they were especially referring to the Saint with abhorrence." "The Orthodox Church, due to his soulful efforts againt heretics and especially papists, panegyrically celebrates his memory on the second Sunday of the Great Lent, right after the Sunday of Orthodoxy..." Scrolling: "The texts were based on the book 'Saint Gregory Palamas-His life and theology' of elder Theoklitos Dionysiatis" "Narration by Alexander Tromboukis" etc.

Nicely done. If anyone can translate the texts before and after the documentary, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for posting this.

St. Gregory Palamas ranks with St. Athanasius of Alexandria. He is a hero of the Christian faith.

@@T_dog1 Have you read any of Palamas' work? Are you aware that his views were not only considerd normative in the Eastern Church, but also were respected deeply among Franciscan theologians in the West at the time of the Council of Florence? In the 20th century, Palamas' fiercest Western critic, Fr. Jugie, considered Palamas a Scotist in all but name. I assume you are Roman Catholic- in my opinion, Palamas' most learned exponent, Fr. Christiaan Kappes, is in communion with Rome. I would encourage you to study Kappes' work. Seriously though, have you read any of Palamas' work?

You know Barlaam's position was literally that you could acquire superior knowledge of God from Hellenic learning than by the prayer of the Holy Spirit? He was no Aquinas and would have considered Aquinas' doctrine of lumen gloriae to be heretical. I know this was probably meant to trigger the e-Orthodox, but you should take care to study this issue before speaking so quickly.
