Sharing the lightest yet functional layers we could find for us while hiking on the Appalachian Trail in the shoulder season. This selection is on the extreme side of Ultralight and definitely won't work for everyone in every condition. Hopefully, this helps someone trying to figure out their layering system.
While there may be lighter layers out there, this is what we've found for now. These items trade weight for durability, so they have to be treated with care. There are plenty of other great options out there to choose from...these are just the lightest we could find as of now.
Trade-offs:
Features - No pit-zips or cinch cords on the rain jacket
Durability - This gear needs to be treated with care.
Price - While not the most expensive gear out there, this gear will cost more than budget gear that is heavier but works just fine.
