The thing about Rembrandt lighting is that there should be a soft edge shadow at the cheek (since it's a form shadow) while the cast shadow from the nose is hard edged.

I found this method a few months ago, and truly each time I look at my face or sometimes others in sharp lighting, I can see the triangle This is even more prevalent in movies because of the deliberate lighting

I did this by accident when we were told to do lino cut self portraits and I've never forgotten since when my art teacher pointed out "hey you did this thing thats kinda cool"

I sort of got that the triangle is somehow created by the shape of the face, but didnt know how exactly to make it. I think I once tried to google it a long time ago but it didnt help much. But when you broke it down to “shadow on the side of the face + shadow on the brow + shadow of the nose” I finally understood
