The animation isn't great, but the character designs are honestly pretty cute for a knockoff, if a bit generic. It seems like they were aiming to make Leo a sort of "jerk with a heart of gold" and I think his design conveys that pretty well!
@PresentlySoap

You articulated that really well, you’ve kind of to convinced me. One thing I find amusing is Leo’s crown. Like I understand from a character design perspective why they gave him one, but if you approach it from a world logic standpoint there are valid questions one should have (where it came from?)… but the fact it is just never even addressed is quite funny, I respect it

The Lion King was the first time a popular Disney movie was not an adaptation from an earlier work, and it was a real challenge for the mockbuster studios because they had no material to work with. Funny how the knockoff Lion King from Golden Films (titled Jungle King if I remember correctly) had much more anthropomorphic animals, walking on two legs and wearing clothes, whereas in this one they were fairly normal animals apart from the crown.

That’s a really interesting observation. I wonder where they pulled the inspiration for the “stars scene” then, was that a prominent image in the advertising of the Lion King? Another thing that I only realised on this most recent watch, was while not a direct adaptation, just how much The Lion King parallels with Hamlet - sort of speaks to the timelessness of that story. Cheers!
@ernovincze2900
4 ай бұрын
@@PresentlySoap Yes, the Hamlet parallels were 100% intentional in TLK, but it's still not a direct adaptation. As for the stars scene - yes, it's probably from the advertising of TLK.

About the scene with the stars: you summed up the meaning behind the scene in the lion king perfectly. But, as for Leo the Lion, what’s the emotional punch we’re supposed to get from it? What do the characters learn from it? What is the audience supposed to take away from it? Nothing. Not to mention, Simba is a far more interesting, compelling protagonist than Leo. As the movie progresses, you SEE Simba grow throughout the movie, you see him taking in the lessons he learns, so, by the time the movie is finished, his character arc feels genuine. Compare that to Leo, who just acts like a dick for over half the movie, and when he says “am I?” After trying to bullshit himself and Twoie that he’s not such a bad guy, it feels forced. Twoie and Leo’s subjects rightfully call Leo out on his behavior, but any redemption we see feels forced. You can’t just have a character be an asshole and claim it’s for a character arc. There’s a fine line between flawed character who needs to learn a lesson and a full blown hateable character not worth rooting for. Also, in the end, Twoie’s mom becomes Leo’s queen, because, sure, why not? Like they were TOTALLY building up to a romance between the two.

This movie looks like it mostly ripped off of Kimba The White Lion (Which is originally called Leo The Lion named after the star constellation in the Japanese version). Kimba/Leo's father was killed by poachers and the scene where you see the cubs mother captured by Poachers at 3:22 is too identical to how Kimba lost his mother. Unlike Leo and his cub in this movie Kimba as a cub not only has to survive on his own but also takes on responsibilities as King, protects his territory and other animals from poachers, outside predators, and rival prides.
