I like the idea, and it seems more elegant than some other ideas I've had. But I'm left with questions. Is this a replacement for the existing screen? The online manual isn't clear. Are Lippert doors labelled as such? Or will this work for other makes? (We have a 22' 2021 Jayflight and I don't know the door manufacturer.) Is it mosquito, fly, and wasp proof?
@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS
3 жыл бұрын
the existing screen will remain on the door. Im not sure if this will work on screen doors that are not made by Lippert, thats a great question. the screen defender is not bug proof, the holes are larger than the factory screen, but since the factory screen stays in, you still wont have to worry about bugs. Thanks for watching and commenting Jeff!

I have a pit bull who loves people but is reactive to some (but not all) dogs. Is this screen saver strong enough to keep her from going through the screen? (I'm adding a lock to keep the door closed.)
@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS
3 жыл бұрын
Hey Susan, I couldn’t confidently tell you how much force it would need to bust through that screen, but the way that it locks in there and with the modification I show in the video I would imagine it would take some serious pressure to break that thing. As you mentioned, I would be more concerned with the door opening before the screen broke. So your idea of putting a lock on the screen door is great. Another little trick is to collapse your handle so it’s in front of the screen door so if it does open it will only open so far. Let me know if you have any other questions, and thanks for watching!

These directions are wrong. The screen comes with 4 inset pieces. 2 male and 2 female. Pick which of the two sizes you want to use and slide them together. Then place them in the opening. They will never fall out.
@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS
Жыл бұрын
They dont lock into the bottom of the door. I know what you’re saying, and the screen sets into the filler pieces, but the filler pieces fall out of the bottom of the door. Also, any other combination of pieces would not fit in my door and completely cover the entire space. Maybe it’s my door size as I’ve seen many others where the screen alone fills the gap, and also 1 filler piece fills the gap. On my door you can clearly see that both large pieces are needed, and nothing else will fit in addition to those pieces. If I did what you’re sayin mg to do on my door I have a gap which defeats the purpose of a screen. Hope that makes sense.

My compliments to your video and a little creativity to resolve an issue! One thing you didn't mention was the size of your door which is about 27 1/2 inches and didn't state that you went with a 28 inch screen. I have a 23 inch on my RV and from what I'm gathering a 24 inch would work. There's a problem that has come to question. I've read reviews on Amazon and many comments were the Lippert screen defender, only fits on RV's that have Lippert RV screen doors. I looked at the label on my screen door and it just has the RV manufacturers name. Online shopping has it's drawbacks because, there's no customer service with knowledgeable people that can give the answer we need! Maybe, I can contact Lippert, directly for a definitive answer?

Great video and a handy tip. I just installed the screen. But, I am not sure I will need to add the DIY tabs. Before I locked in the top tabs of the screen, I pressed the bottom rail of the screen tight into the channel on top of the spacer. @@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS I think I see the difference in how you used spacers vs how I did. The kit I got had 4 total spacers. There was a male/female pair of each size. When I stop your video at the 1:54 mark, it looks like you are using 2 large FEMALE spacers and put the front part of the channel into the bottom of the top female spacer. Because I have only 1 large female spacer, I couldn't create the same configuration.
