Good morning, Ken! Just a thought. Get rid of that ridiculous gas nozzle. They aren't worth the headache! Not to mention the undue pressure you're putting on the attachment points for your fuel tank by pushing that useless red locking device against the tank. Used one ONCE! Removed it and installed a universal nozzle and breather cap on all my cans. Got mine at Tractor Supply, but you can get them other places including online outlets. Thanks for ANOTHER awesome video! I use this type of heater for years and it save wear and tear for the truck engine not needing to run. They do require some maintenance but it doesn’t take much time to get it done. The amount of fuel used was about a gallon over night. They can also be setup as an engine block heater as well, given how it’s designed. Nice to have something that can save money and keep you warm during the winter 🥶

Seems like a good heater, and I applaud your innovation. 2 concerns: 1. I assume that 100% of combustion exhaust is to the outdoors. 2. The owner, while backing the trailer, is sure to eventually ram the heater and/or the fuel tank into something; a bumper is thus needed.

Yes! Remember the old days with metal cans, a flexible metal gooseneck spout, and a gasket that would seal the cap so nothing leaked. Plastic cans and spouts are a big annoyance. None work for very long. I now just remove the spout and pour from the filler hole--fast and simple. I am impressed with that heater. Enclosing it similar to what you have on the side is good.

Ken, I think that unit needs to be inside the camper the plate that it mounts to has the fuel air and exhaust outside. That air filter is for the combustion camber it is sucking cold air from the plastic body on the left and putting that heated air out the duct. How you have it now it could suck exhaust from the heater and pump it into the trailer.

bring in the large cold air return .....but leave the small intake outside..... reason is the small intake goes into the combustion chamber ... the large air intake can not allow gases to enter and will take the cold air off the floor and recirculate.... the only way gases can enter the building is if the heat chamber cracks.... just like a home furnace or you bring in the small intake tube.... such as in a back fire. I have used these for years and never found one with a crack yet but it could happen.... so always use a alarm to make sure you are safe.

Test run went well with the heater 👌. Since I don't know your plan for the build inside of the Vardo, my suggestion is to route the air intake supply to at least the center area for good circulation. To isolate the sound from the fuel pump you can use a semi-hard rubber washer between the Vardo wall & bracket for the pump to dampen it. Those new filler nozzles frustrate most people and there are replacement option out there, as I get pop up ads on KZitem all the time for them.

We've been using one of these for a while now. The automotive accessory plug (cigarette lighter) adapter is truly not rated for the amount of amps the unit will draw, from a 12.8v source, during startup. Plus, they are prone to coming unplugged and getting loose over time. I have replaced all such plugs with either Anderson Power Pole or XT-30 connectors. They are much more likely to stay plugged in and are rated for the amps drawn during startup. You might consider insulating the flexible line bringing hot air into the tiny house...it can make a surprising difference.

Hi Ken, a note for installing this type of heater for a small space, I'd have some sort of Carbon Monoxide alarm in there. These types of heaters (larger though) are used in the military and is known to cause carbon monoxide poisoning when the tents are not adequately vented. I'm sure you thought about it already but i have know doubt your going to insulate and seal that rig like a pro.

Just a pointer: those IR thermometers don't read well on a highly reflective surface. (chrome, silver, copper) They do work well on a dull surface. You may have read that just a reminder because if done by powering disconnect you will have potential issues upon starting again. I love both of mine one in my cabin and one in my Gypsy Wagon. Oh those gas cans with the new spout are a pain what I do is fill the tank using a funnel and a smaller container. I have the same fule can that you do but the weight is harder holding up and potential of spill. I would highly suggest using a filler pump from Harbor Freight which can pump all fluids but I have one dedicated for my mowers, one also for diesel and one for water. Great heat for your "Vardo"

I think you need a soft mount for the fuel pump. It's vibration feeds right into the plywood that acts as a large sounding board. Maybe a box inside another box, with soft rubber between the boxes. Unkle Ken couple of points 1, turn fuel filter vertically so it fills with fuel this will help get rid of air in pipes as these units have issues if get starved of fuel. 2, put a safety cage around it to stop small hands touching hot exhaust. 3. The screen on these units have a thermostat built in so will turn off once upto temperature you set 4, if using in cold climates you may have to add an additive to stop diesel waxing. My friends build vans in the Uk and use these all the time.

R you going to make a metal box to cover with a vent for the heat system outside? I'm thinking since it's traveling, and if someone pumps the heat system the box will help with the impact, maybe? Every time you attach it to the wall, if you bump to the wall, you're gonna get that vibration through the wall, so you're gonna hear it and I'd wait until you foam insulate the wall and see what it is after that, because then you probably aint gonna hear It as much. But you still might want to put another insulated block behind it, to keep it from making so much noise. A rubber pad or some kind softer, the better on the rubber pad

I don't have that new style of spout but have 2 older "new style" and after not too long the "let the air in" valves failed, one is unusable so I have to swap the other between the 2 gas cans. Doesn't work any better than the old "open spout" tanks when you don't open the air inlet. That pump may not be self priming very well. It is amazing the unit can produce heat with so little fuel getting to it. Does the tank have an air inlet so the pump doesn't have to pull against a vacuum? Does the unit have some way of connecting to a thermostat so it is self regulating? I assume you will be mounting the LCD inside the Vardo.

That gas can nozzle at the beginning... There's a tab you are supposed to press as you put the nozzle in the filler neck. It's supposed to prevent the valve from opening accidentally. I break that tab off, because usually it doesn't allow the valve to open as easily as what happened in your demonstration. And trying to press it while holding the full 5 gallon can is a good way to slip and break the nozzle.

I buy old fashion spouts on Amazon. They come with spouts and a drill bit for adding the vent. Also have screw on cap for spout. Good riddance to the new style unbendable, spilling spouts.

Install a CO detector near the floor where it won't get kicked. They are inexpensive and save lives.

Would be better to have the tank opening away from building so you fill it easier

Hard to believe you mounted the heater on the outside and not in one of the side cabinets.

Nice little heater. Do you think it would heat your work shop.

I have the same one. You just turn it on and wait. It has to warm up the glow plug first and then it will start pumping fuel. Those little pumps are very noisy unfortunately and at the beginning you will see air bubbles in the line.

Don't put your hair vent on the inside. Reason why is you want fresh air coming into it? Not air from the inside cause. You don't want to keep taking your option from the inside. You don't want your oxygen coming from the outside? So what you do is you just put your metal plate over it kind of coming from Downward side up and over the hose, and also that blocks the sun from rotten your hose, because that hose will be eat up from the sun

It will be interesting to see how long the fuel will last. Does it smell like diesel on the inside?

I spill more fuel using the new spouts. For me, the new ones are more dangerous 😮
