Yes that's exactly what happens. Ariel decides well before she sees Eric she wants to become a human. She doesn't feel at home in the sea. She feels isolated, controlled and viewed as a product. Everybody talks about her beautiful voice. Nobodyever talks about Ariel the person. Eric does in fact appriciate her and decides before he hears that angelic voice come out of her mouth he is the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with.

For those of you who are wondering how Eric is drowning, they are using a Raynok Motion Control System with a control system manufactured by Niscon. When the ship goes up, it is as if we are panning down into the ocean watching Eric sink to the bottom of the ocean. With that said, there are two stunt men who are dressed up as Eric. One as the ship is going up and the second one who drowns. The actor playing Eric switches places with the first stuntman (5:57) so the actor has enough time to go to the bottom of the stage for his next entrance. Once the ship is up, the second stuntman (6:27) is hooked up to the rigging system who is already at the top hidden and is then slowly lowered to the bottom of the stage. The stunt man is then lifted (6:52) simulating Ariel saving him and once the rest of the scenery is in place for the beach, the original Eric has had enough time to get down on the stage or though a trap door and enters (7:04) as the ocean scenery is being replaced with the beach scenery. Hope this helped! :)

the transition from water to land was just ... artistic genius! And I personnally think the costumes are wonderful. An intelligent way of portraying merfolk without the actors looking/feeling awkward and ridiculous. Disney should put this back on Broadway and release it onto the West End. And I think Sierra Boggess who played Ariel should have won ten awards for her portral, she was simply phenomenal, a real, sincere actress and a fantastic singer :) Please bring it back :)

The Storm at Sea scene was so breathtaking in person! I was blown away by it! I was sad it went off Broadway but at least it's going on a US Tour in the Fall! It's another sailor on cables. Eric leaves the ship at 6:04ish on the far left by Grimsby. One of the sailors took off his vest and became "Eric". You can see the cables at 6:47ish. They're the black triangles that come off of Eric's pants. While this scene took place, the real Eric climbed down from the fly loft, went beneath the stage and got on an elevator to pop out of the stage at exactly the right time. If you look there's a permanent "wave" preventing the audience from seeing the opening.

About 90% of my appreciation for Ariel comes from the musical (I didn’t care for her as much in the movie). It’s not that she hates the sea or is ungrateful for all she has. It’s not that she’s spoiled. She’s just a human otaku (ie. a huge, obsessive fan) and if she can’t be a human herself, she’ll surround herself with as much humanity as she can. The way she happens to do that is collecting human stuff. Makes me wonder what was the first thing she added to her collection, or what was it that first sparked her love of humans?

I would love if Hunchback went to Broadway! The music from the movie is amazing and the mixing of Catholic chants to the music was an amazing touch. The Aladdin musical I saw at the 5th Ave in Seattle was a trial for Broadway and I must say that it was spectacular!

That's fantastic! Good reviews for an out of town try-out of a show motivates a comapny to take it to the next level. Hopefully Aladdin is on it's way there. The Hunchback of Notre Dame has been stuggling for such a long time. Like you said the music is ideal to put on Broadway. I wish Disney would take advantage of it. Fingers remain tighly crossed.
