Can you do a time lapse of the board past midnight and then passing 5 am to see network light up. Getting a massive one of these to show the exact location of trains would be awesome as well.

Same idea! Would make a great secondary video. From 4am to 4am the next day, 10 seconds per frame, 24 hours should be about 5 minutes.

You can only estimate train position based on arrival/departure times and average journey times between stations, there's no detailed position info available as far as I'm aware.

I agree, MM, that it doesnt look as good as it sounds, but the concept of dragging real-time data onto a LED circuit board is great. If it were a pretty flat screen tablet display of the live tube network, that would be far less, ummmm, enchanting.

@@maciejmanna9246 It's quite hard to film LEDs and have them look good. The pictures on the company's website look a bit better, and I suspect it will look a bit better still in the flesh.

@@beeble2003 That's a good point. Thanks. Still, my issue is the resolution. As mentioned, it may look glorious when load is smaller and trains are just rolling in or out, but during peak hours it is just overwhelming. Larger one, with some light in between stations would be great, but understandably that would increase the cost beyond the scope of many target customers...

I have the Boston version- it's fantastic! I know exactly when to leave to catch my train in the morning and it looks so cool! Great customer service too, 10/10

Saw the latest board today in shop in Tunbridge Wells. It also has the Elizabeth Line. It was so good I had to buy it, now sitting at home mesmerised by the little coloured lights moving around the tracks. Having been involved with The Underground and Elizabeth Line so it hold special meaning to me.

I'd love one of a terminus station, say Waterloo or Liverpool Lime Street for instance. With all the approaches shown as a separate line of LEDs for each track. It would probably cost a fortune to make, especially Waterloo, but interesting to watch.

He could have even done this video in the middle of the night! Hope we see a timelapse of some sort like when it lights up at 5 am (also this would make a great alarm clock too probably, imagine having it in your dark room and at 5 am, when you need to wake up for work, it lights up!)

Custom PCB for low volumes are pretty pricey. Also you'll need the SaaS stuff to feed it the data. It's an indulgence not a necessity, and yes, I have bought one :)

I was thinking this might be really to cool to have mounted in a US East Coast British-themed pub. However, if TfL closes the Tube at 1amGMT, that's 8pmET, right when US restaurants and pubs start getting going, if I did my math right. So customers would never see the board in action, except on weekends, or at near/closing time (12-1amET/5-6amGMT in New York, for instance). Still, I love the idea!

I'm originally from the Midwest in the states, grew up going to Chicago, and still get back there at least a couple times a year. I'm also a big rain enthusiast. Especially with local rail like the L in Chicago and Tube in London. When I saw that they made one of these for Chicago, I've been wanting one ever since.

Both the gadget and conversation bellow is soooo geeky. Knowing that there are people making this, as well as there are people having this at home, makes me feel better about mankind. And there's an API for all of that. It's a wonderful world :-)

I love that. But as an artist I would made some adjustments like a black background instead - I know the 'engineered'' people like the green 'motherboard' look but black would be better. Also the connecting cable should be in the bottom and if possible at the back out of the frame so we could frame it and hang it on to the wall just as Steve Cleaves suggest. Thank you to Traintrackr. Good job.

I think it would be great if there would be an option that the board could light up certain areas if TfL releases a status alert for that particular area. Like if the Picadilly line would be out of service between Acton Town and Uxbridge for maintenance work, than that section would light up.

Boston's is available with two lights for each spot on the line - one for each direction, so you can see where the trains are headed! Not even London has that.

It looks really cool, though they could've added a detachable cover of some sort, maybe that has the actual tube map printed on it and the LEDs fit into the gaps of where each station dot is on the actual Tube map - would have made it have a nice finish to it, and doubt it would cost that much.

@@jonjohnson2844 Considering the number of products sold by all sorts of companies utilising the Tube Map I'm sure applying and buying rights to use the map wouldn't be too difficult. The price of the product may increase to cover the overheads but I doubt by much. tfl.gov.uk/info-for/suppliers-and-contractors/map-licensing

Funny thing. However there a two directions on each line. So when a station LED lights up, you do not know what direction the train is going.

There is such a thing as a blacklight, it's a UV light that looks black even when it's on but with a mysterious looking purple glow The larger board might use more power than the small, there's essentially 3 led's in each led package, a mix of the 3 colours creates the final colour, so white would have all 3 colours illuminated, a computer usb is generally 500mA iirc
