Calvin has got to be one of the best friends in the world, to come all the way from England to work so hard in the extreme heat. How lucky Dan is to have such good friends, i believe it is proof of Dan's innate likeability, kindness and charisma.

England is not actually very far from France, 1hr 35mins by air to Limoges airport where Dan picked him up from.

That was a great piece of luck. Getting those pillars and arches remade would have cost a fortune and they would also have stood out when placed among the remaining ones.

Make sure to use some of those old steel beams as your ramps for clearing things out. As funny as it is to watch all your previous ramp attempts it is also quite painful. Keep up the good work!

Not sure how helpful the steels would be but a bunch of 50x250 mm scaffolding planks nailed together would make much better ramps than the crazy things he used in the basement. Trestles to support the planks and 50x25 mm roofing slats nailed perpendicular to the planks at 300 mm intervals to provide better footing.

About 25 years ago i helped a Dutch family for a week that had bought some farmhouses at Ladignac le-Long (that's about 30 km south of Limoges, i think i heard your chateau is also close by Limoges) well close by on a hilltop there where the ruins of a medieval castle and in the farmhouses there where some large stones used that came from that castle ruins and all the farmhouses surrounding that castle ruins must have pieces taken and build in them also.

It looks like getting a water connection to an outside tap would be very useful.

They'd need to get a well pump and run electrics to that. I checked, you can get basic well pumps complete with pressure tank for under 200 Euros so if the well water is usable that would be a good investment.

Dumpsters, must be very expensive to rent in France. That's the only explanation I can propose for the constant repetition of work. Throw stuff from the top floor to the first floor, Pick it up and carry it over to the window. Throw it out the first floor window on the ground. Go get the front end loader and pick it up from the ground. Repeat endlessly. Two dumpsters and waste chutes going into them would have saved months of work.

And to see how much it gashed the wall when it bounced off it before hitting the ground, just like the dismantled water tank piece. Hope those heavy items didn't damage the stone wall when they hit it on the way down.

Dan, those arch sections should be PINNED in addition to using the lime mortar. That is the way things are done today for safety and strength, structural integrity.

Would be nice if you could cast moulds of the arches before you put them back. It's not hard to do, and if somewhere in the future, you build an outbuilding, you could use them to esthetically tye into the original chateau.

Just see him with a kilt rolling the logs!Tossing beams, mattresses, and tubs aside like they’re matchsticks is a pretty awesome heavy task! It's a blessing to have those pieces back, because I feel there would be no way for you to replace those and make them suitable to blend in. Let's hope things keep popping up that you need until all is done. Having those and having awesome help makes things so fantastic for you. Frankly you are making so much progress that you are showing any naysayers what can be done if you put your mind to it. If there was ever any doubt, that doubt should most certainly dissipate. Who was the new guy in the black shorts, was looking out for Calvin in his orange shorts but he must have had the day off (sorry Calvin just could not help myself). Can't believe that your neighbour collected and kept the lintels safe all these years. Shows that there must be a great love and respect for the Chateau. I remember, I watched Dan’s vlog of the house restoration and I was amazed. But with this project it blew my mind. He is restoring what is beyond the repair. I am watching with awe every singe movie and I have no idea where does he take this positive outlook from. I bet as soon as the camera is off, he screams out. Lol. It gives me hope though, as I bought a shop that is in the same state as chateau. Maybe, I will be able to pull it off too.

Can you place a trailer outside the door to put the stuff you clean out into it rather than dump it on the ground. That way you don’t have to handle it as many times and can just tow the trailer away and dump it where you like. It would save time and digger fuel.

Dan did that previously when he & Calvin cleared out the main entrance room of 3 ft of debris ( where the old staircase was...also the room where the beautiful tile was that has been taken up {for safety during construction.})
