I do love Venice but yes, tourism is the business. Also as a warning to anyone who goes during carnevale, if someone who’s dressed up for carnivale poses for a picture with you and then asks you to pay for it, you are not required to. A lady told me to pay her €20 per person in the photo, so €40 for a photo with my own phone. It’s a scam. No one else accepts money fora photo even when you ask them about it.

When I visited Italy, our tour guide who has born and raised in Florence told us that if you can see the gelato, then it is not authentic. To keep the gelato at its optimal temperature condition, the containers should be covered with a lid and surrounded by ice (or just have the environment really cold). So every time we saw stands with mountains of gelato we knew it wasn’t going to be good and only bought from places with covered gelato. All of them were really delicious 😋

As an italian, that’s REALLY good advice. Also, stay away if: - ANYTHING is written in english - the waiter is on the street trying to get customers in - it’s near a monument of relevance (you’re gonna pay for the view and not the food) If you have any doubts on where to go and you’re in one of the bigger cities, try asking to the college-age people there (especially if they’re in a group of 3/4, they’re more likely to actually try and help you), they’re the most likely to know english.

not necessarily, but real artisanal gelato is flat. if you see anything else that isn't flat, like the one in the video that has those big "clouds" and "mountains" of gelato,it actually isn't artisanal but premade or "fake" as you call it. If it doesn't have a lit BUT is FLAT,such as completely flat, it's perfect. Also if pistacchio Is more of a Brown, that's real, the other one is just flavored like that but actually very fake and has a lot of food coloring. If you want a quick break from the hot,of course you can get those fake ones, still pretty refreshing and depending on the flavour pretty good. just not artisanal.

@@Ash_Wen-li it still doesn't really explain it. Air is pumped into icecream. It's completely normal. That's how churning works. You can even google why ice cream/gelato/sorbet needs air. I'm guessing why the taste is absolutely atrocious is that there's too much stabilisers which is why it looks hella gummy which then means that the ratio of rest of the ingredients is fucked. Making ice cream/gelato is a somewhat of a science. Ingredients need to be added to a pot and heated up to certain temperatures, cooled down in certain temperatures, left in the fridge overnight to mature, and *then* churned and packed into whatever container.

As an Italian, here’s some tips: Don’t trust vegan ice creams, they are often made with already/prepared and ultra processed stuff Don’t search for the “mountain”. If the gelato is high and it looks too stable even if it forms a sort of peak of a mountain. That’s probably done with hidrogenated fats or low quality ingredients, often pre-made Don’t trust too bright colors Search for the “pozzetto”. Elite gelato is kept in a container that looks like a big tub of glue. That allows to keep the gelato at a right temperature, even if you don’t see it. Don’t trust gelaterie that sell weird flavours like Mars,Oreo and stuff like those… Search for “gelateria Naturale” instead of “gelateria artigianale”. With the first one you’re sure you’re not being sold pre-made low quality ice cream. You’ll be sold an authentic Gelato Don’t trust gelaterie with too many flavours and strange creams and toppings to add to your gelato. If it’s made well, you won’t need those I hope it can help

Honey, being Greek and having been to Greece quite a few times, during and not during holidays, the common rule is that if a bunch of shops are closed, then the one you’re going to find open is very sketchy and will most likely scam you. I would imagine the same is true for Italy. For certain holidays (like Christmas, Easter, and the 15th of August), Greece almost completely closes down because everyone takes off to celebrate. But, I could be wrong since I’ve never been to Italy so, don’t take my word for fact.

May you please go to Pensacola, Florida and try Lemontes gelato. Once you are finished this is made by my Italian aunts and uncles who own it. ( This ain’t helping the stereotype one bit 😂 )

you can get good gelato at almost any gelato place in italy. in a lot of other countries outside of the US, food culture is less about the bottom line and has more to do with passion and pride and in italy, most food places take pride in the quality of their product and are personally attached to the product they sell so you a much less likely to get ripped off on the quality than in america where companies are now trying to squeeze as much money as they possibly can out of you while spending as little as they can get away with on the product they are serving to you

An Italian said to me: When the icecream is stacked up above the metal bucket you can almost certainly say that it’s garbage.

I used to have my own uncle (who lives in Italy) as a guide. He showed me and my siblings all the places and I loved gelato. I think, I’m going to visit him again, because of this video
