If wealthy people are willing to pay $10,000,000 for a painting that took the artist five hours to paint, an $800.000 watch that took a year to make probably seems like a bargain.

20:06 "How does a watch manifacturer justifies an $800K price tag, or more?" Well, that watch is not just any watch, that's a Perpetual Calendar, Flying Tourbillon and Minute Repeater with close to a thousand components, and they didn't make many of them, considering the R&D cost behind a piece like that and the fact that it is entirely hand finished and hand assembled, which will require an insane amount of hours worth of work, I'd say the price tag is very well justified to the eyes of someone who knows and appreciate the watch and the brand. Personally I'd rather by that Vacheron Constantin for $800K than an $800K watch from Jacob&Co with diamonds all over it, because that is a proper watch, from a distinguished brand with 260+ years of experience and know-how. But that's just my opinion✌️

Yup! And the prices he wants for many of these is about twice what other sellers typically sell them for. So yes, obviously referencing the MSRP against any discounted price may seem like a lot, but he's definitely not offering his best possible price on these. He didn't pay anywhere near 1/3 of the MSRP for them, it's just how the grey market works.

Great and thoughtful video. I've read that for some of these maisons, not only one guy working for a year, or a team, but to produce or have on staff that level of craftsmen can take several generations of apprentices. That is where some of the costs comes from, I think.

Simply stated, an annual calendar needs to be corrected once a year in February (hence the term, annual) and a perpetual calendar knows all the months and their days, including February and leap years. Most perpetual calendars are “programmed” to be accurate until 2100, then will need to be corrected by a watchmaker.

@6:48 I would wear that. I wouldn't buy a watch to tell the time my phone does that quite accurately. If I'm buying a watch I'm buying it because of it's unique design, colors and movement like this one, it's a mechanical work of art. I don't care for the bling and I don't see the point in buying watches that have the same designs as all the other normal watches.
