Thank you Richard for talking so honestly and compassionately about grief. Yes, we will all experience bereavement whether it be losing a partner or our parents. Life goes on, changed forever and we need to be kind to ourselves and others.

Such an example of a fine loving human being. It also shows all the homophobes that gay relationships can be as pure, strong, special and meaningful as straight relationships. He just exudes love of mankind. You can hear the love in his voice.

I lost my dad 93 days ago. I still haven't wept. Perhaps there is something wrong with me. Perhaps I should read this book.

Dear Salsylex Rest assured -- there is nothing wrong with you. Each individual grieves in their own time and in their own way -- there is no right or wrong. It may be that you might never shed a tear, and that's okay. Sending love at this challenging time.

I first saw your description of this in the Radio Times, along with Mark Gatiss'. It chimed with me completely. The surrealism of coming to terms that the person you loved so much (my mother, I'm an only child) has been a surreal experience for me at times. The grieving is coming to an end but I have to say that I can't understand why nothng is written about the sheer terror and mind-bending process of getting your head around that this person isn't here anymore. I'm not religious but there were times when I hoped and prayed that I could be.
