Yes AND no to templates - depends on how many identical things need made. Great project - that thing will survive well into his teen years, at which point he'll wedge himself against the ceiling. Hats off to your plan for knockdown-ability - that would definitely bend my head keeping all those connecting joints straight. When you mentioned a Gantt chart, it made me wonder: assuming you're not fully funded via YT here, what's your 'day job'?
@TimberBiscuitWoodworks
Жыл бұрын
No doubt! Hopefully, in his teen years that’s all the troubles he’ll be getting into haha. And by day I work in advertising, YT only covers most of the project materials at this point.

Man you are killing it. Your skill is growing exponentially from an outsiders perspective. I would put you up there with The Wood Whisperer, Jason from Bourbon Moth and Matt from MWA Woodworks. I’ve been watching Marc TWW for years and he has taught me more about woodworking than I could ever imagine. But you are on your way to helping me learn and I’m sure many others would agree. Thank you!
@TimberBiscuitWoodworks

To even be mentioned in that company is truly humbling, thank you so much! And I’m really happy to hear you’re finding the videos helpful. Guys like Marc and Norm are huge inspirations, so I hope that I can provide a fraction of their insight.

25 years ago, I did almost identical for daughter, then 12. Bought Ikea loft bed, reduced length by about 175cm (7") as her room wasn't wide enough for full size. Worked great. She didn't grow much more. She loved it and the desk hung below with threaded rod in shiny metal sheath. Couldn't have scratch built for the Ikea price
@TimberBiscuitWoodworks
Жыл бұрын
You’re probably right, but I don’t really try to make comparisons with IKEA. I think most people understand that the quality of IKEA furniture is far below anything I’m building. It’s kind of like saying I bought a Honda Civic 25 years ago and while that is a car, it’s no Mercedes.

Yes templates. The hardware you used to assemble the bed is really neat 👍 I've seen some shocker loft beds in my day and this is definitely one of the better ones I've seen. I like the minimalist look for the desk space and I also quite like the bed rails. They almost have a futuristic space-age feel to them with those shapes. Awesome project, Shane 👍

No templates for me. Mainly because most of my stuff is small and one-off so just never feels warranted. With that dado on the ladder, did you end up filling in the empty space at all? I wouldn't imagine it'd be a concern structurally, but my OCD would want to tack a scrap piece of maple there or something.
