I just find it so beautiful. The magic wasn't turning the island into some fantasy wonderland, but instead making people believe that it was a real life place in the real world

The “magic” is in the props and sets, they feel so lively, it’s like you could walk through your screen and be right there, that’s the TRUE magic of the show.

Thomas and Friends has something such a unique charm to it that makes it stand out from other kids shows, the trains have faces and can talk but still feels grounded to reality where it’s natural, it isn’t treated as a magical phenomenon it’s just a normal thing that happens in the world of Thomas. To me Thomas has a very special place in my heart such as it’s realism, characters, world and stories that I adore, when I was a kid I thought that the island of Sodor was a real place you could go to. Of course it isn’t but it has so many elements from real life railways, locations and stories that it feels believable and that’s what I love about it. Thomas and Friends just feels so timeless and I love letter to railways and trains as a whole.

Gordon is my favorite awdry character because he goes through life, he starts young and new, boastful and arrogant, but throughout the series, he learns the death of his family, he grows as such a good character, but by the time the RWS series ended, Gordon was an old man, and he gladly handed over the express

The realistic and simple nature of the original series is simply genius and timeless. If only Mattel would understand and/or care about that!

This franchise just has that charm that brings you to the magic of this world around it. From the lessons you learn in different stories to the realistic part in history in the world of trains. Not to mention it gets you to be fascinated with trains and appreciate them. It's such a wonderful franchise. I'm happy that this franchise became part of my childhood and so on in my life.

You Know Every time when I feel like I've had a bad day, I watch an episode from what ever season of Classic Thomas, I feel a lot better and I'm able to escape reality. This show was always a major part of my life and I'm thankful for that.

wonderful video! I will say, even as a young child, the best part of the show was how realistic it felt. I really loved Series 2 for this reason. It was gritty, industrial, dirty, had cool lighting, but was still vivid, and contrasty, which is what really has been missing from the show since series 5. I doubt I would have ever become invested in the show had I only seen series 7 and onwards.

As a Thomas fan and railway fan I've learned a lot about how Wilbert Audrey came up with the stories, it is interesting that he came up with the real event in real life.

I agree! I don't think there was just one thing that made Thomas successful, but what made it come together so well was as Britt said, everyone was so united; and to add to that, everyone was so passionate about it, and creates more passion in the fans. Heck that's why I wrote my college thesis on it, and made it into a video! Really great video!

Absolutely amazing video! Seriously well done! It's disappointing to see what Thomas has become. I grew up with the model series so that is what I'll always love most. It took me a while to be accepting of the CGI series, but All Engines Go is where I draw the line. It's simply unwatchable. - Ryan

Thomas has been my favorite childhood show ever since I was introduced to it at the age of three and the first episode I watched was the Sad Story of Henry on my great grandmother’s 100th birthday and it has had a special place in my heart and at 36 I still love reading the original books and rewatching the classic model series and some of the later CGI series but sadly since Mattel rebooted the show it has lost what made it so special and I don’t like what it has become and with the 80th anniversary coming next year I am very worried about Thomas future with Mattel thanks for sharing this great video of my favorite blue tank engine 👍💙🚂

Not just the history there's also talk on a pilot model of Thomas I for one have just made a replica of my Pilot Thomas with using a second Billy Tank Engine and I don't want to spoil what I've got from one of my cassette cameras. Would you like to see the pilot film once I put it up? I call it Project 5383.

The characters are the best part, but I think the fact that it's live action played a massive role in its popularity. For me personally, i was enamored by the models (which I thought were huge and real as a kid), and I think if it was a cartoon, it just wouldn't have had the same impact on me.

I like that the Thomas Today section didn't just trash on "All Engines Go!" Shows DO need to adapt. I'll be the first to admit that I didn't actually hate the reboot itself, as much as I hated the management of the brand leading up to it at that point.
