Here is what I think; The house that was broken into was John's parents. That is why when John jumped in the pool, his 'mom' shook her head. This is also why I think he was surprised to see Charlie. I think his parents kicked him out because he wasn't high class like them, and he just wanted to start a band, so he wasn't aware that they had another child.

+StarlitMorning The X. I'm surprised at the upvotes just because it's such an unlikely theory. These people don't look old enough to be his parents. If he did have any connection to these people it would be that he had an affair with the kid's mom and maybe the kid is his
@Grace-bt6os

Maybe this was after the song “Right girl” and he went to her house after she had “married a guy she had talked about” not knowing that he had a kid with her which is why he was shocked after seeing him and when he drops to the pool, the mom looks at him the way she did because she knew who he was... I’m bad at explaining sorry but you can try putting the songs together and it kinda makes sense lol

5:02 what a good shot...is that LA? I'm 19 and I started listening to Pop/Punk Alternative Rock whatever you call this music and it was/ is my life. ATL The Maine BLG WTK FTSK ALL those people and it's so great to see so many of us still sticking with it. I have been following the Maine since the beginning when they had The Way We Talk EP. Great to have followed them and other bands of this genre and see how they mature over time. The Maine is one of the most noticeable changes and I love that it's still who they are even if it's a lot different from where they started but that should happen to any good music group look at any other band that has been around for awhile. It's great that I still get to immerse myself with great music with great people and this music has created such a great subculture that I will cherish forever. Here's to being young y'all and LONG LIVE THE MAINE

I think that the kid is actually his, that's why he was kind of taken a back by the house in the beginning, as though he was checking on his child and was in disbelief about the life that his kid was living, making him feel guilty and probably worse about the fact that he couldn't provide for him and his mother. That's why he was so hesitant to leave and looked hurt when he told the kid to go to his dad. Probably why the mother looked at him and shook her head when he was in the pool, probably telling him not to try and get in contact with their child.

In fact I believe this music video suggests the most important verse of the song is "last night I did things my mom told me not to", etc. John is there with his friends, trying fancy cars ("Champagne taste but not enought money for the real thing") and "living" a life that its not theirs, like the lyrics. When John finds Charlie, he notices their behaviour might be unhealthy cause puts others in danger (it was only a kid surrounded by strangers, you know?). And when he jumps in the pool and Charlie's mom shakes her head to him while hugging Charlie, I think it's a subjective scene. Doesnt mean the lady really did that. Might mean John saw in her what his own mom would do if she knew what he does in the weekends (lyrics again!!), which would be shake her head, disapproving his behaviour.

my theory is that John is so tense because when he was a kid, someone broke into his house and he see's himself in that kid. That's why he's so concerned about him. in a way its like re-living his past. That's why he puts the watch back, and makes sure that the kid is okay. but who knows, i could be wrong.

Saw them last year 2015 with my ex-bestfriend, and they have a free mall show here in philippines. They did a live acoustic ones, before they perform a concert with the all time low and it was sooo soo good. such pure talents. and they're so sweet to their fans. I wish I would've found them earlier, because after seeing them on that live acoustic session, I fell inlove with them. I just don't know why they're not popular. I mean they deserve it more than these talentless people who are just making songs about butts, twerking, sex etc.. I listened to their songs all the time esp when I'm going to school. They saved my life, but I just wish I found this band earlier like I said because I regret not going to their concert after listening to bunch of their music. Such a good band.

Based on the lyrics, "last night I did things my mother told me not to, with the people I shouldn't see, in the places that I should not go", I reckon this video's about hanging out with a crowd that conflict with the beliefs and lessons you grow up with as a child. When John sees the kid, as well as when he sees the kid embrace his mother, I think his mind flashes back to a younger version of himself, and he suddenly realises deep in his gut that what he's doing isn't right. Loss of innocence.

idk i think when john sees the child he reminds him of himself as a kid, and he's in shock for being caught by a kid, the kid must be frightened when the wife looks at john and shakes her head (while holding her son, probably in relief that it was just some crazy young people looking for trouble) he thinks about his own mother and regrets the things he's had done "and last night I did things / my mother told me not to / with the people I shoudn’t see / in the places that I should not go" and about kennedy and jared (the bathtub and the car part) they were just astonished about all the nice things in that house "we’ve got champagne taste / but not enough money for the real thing / we’ve got flames in our veins / and just enough money for the weekend"
@michelephantx
9 жыл бұрын
charlie smith I definitely think it does. I think that it's kind of a narrative of a guy who is following his friends (and maybe girlfriend) to do things that he's not necessarily enjoying/doesn't think are a great idea (notice the girl has to tell him to relax and he's not really participating) and then finding the kid confirms his feeling that what they were doing wasn't right. Then he's separated from the group and doesn't really catch up with them because in the end the whole experience was different for him than them.
