19 D-shaped superconducting magnets, each one weighing as much as a jetliner and standing 5 storeys tall. These are the ITER toroidal field (TF) coils, 18 of which will be placed around the vacuum vessel to produce a total magnetic energy of 41 gigajoules and a maximum magnetic field of 11.8 tesla.
