Well, like everything western great Economy did, they reduced the factors that cost much and are least reliable. Humans. @@Battmatt22That doesnt explain the slowness at all. Back in the day they addressed the slow downs. Today more than half of the menu is the same but with added toppings. A Big Mac is just a cheeseburger with more toppings and sauce which is all prepped beforehand. @@Battmatt22Really makes me wonder what these people are ordering and what time of day. I remember working at McDonald’s when I was 14 and the amount of times grown ass adults threw fits because they had to wait 6 minutes on chicken we make to order after lunch rush was insane. And then make claims like waiting for “30 minutes”. No, you waited in a drive thru line. Don’t like that, go inside. Always less packed. And the only time I wait that long in drive thru at any fast food restaurant, is at midnight when there is only 1 McDonald’s open in the whole city of 170k people living and a few Taco Bells. And they have a crew of like 4 people at that time of night. So yeah, you’re going to be waiting when a double lane drive thru is completely wrapped around the building. Or, maybe these people can start cooking at home. Tastes better anyways, cheaper in the long run, and you can make something that doesn’t take 30-40 minutes. People are so damn entitled and don’t think about anything other than themselves. And them complaining about how long it takes to get their food, while conveniently leaving out what they order and time of day says a lot. Then there are other things that cause people to wait longer. People refusing to move forward as their food cooks. The staff size, what you are ordering and the time, how busy it is because they only staff during lunch rush and dinner rush. Rest of the day it’s run by like 4 maybe 5 people. If it is dark outside so they can’t pull people forward and if everyone is ordering MADE TO ORDER food, then yeah, you’re going to wait.

Fun fact: when they began to get popular, they had trouble meeting demand, so they shut down for a short while, had the staff come to a field where they made a mockup of the kitchen. They would pretend to do their job, then they analyzed everyone's flow and made tweaks to the layout until they had found a more efficient set up. They then changed the real kitchen in the same way, and then reopened and we're able to keep up with demand.

@@shadowbonbon3 Not really. Since the establishment of the minimum wage in 1938 in the US, it has outpaced inflation. Minimum wage was $0.25/hour in 1938, which is equivalent to about $5.55 in modern money. The federal minimum wage of $7.25 is 23% higher than the inflation-adjusted value, and many states have established a minimum wage even higher than that. You can make a lot of complaints about the economy, but basic math demonstrates that the claim "minimum wage hasn't kept up with inflation" isn't true over the long term. You can cherry-pick dates to make the math work for that assertion, but that would be disingenuous disinformation.

For example, Lena Headey, Charles Dance (Cersei and Tywin Lannister) and Jack Gleeson (Geoffrey Baratheon). Did such good roles you can help but hate their characters. Keaton did a similar thing here. You're kinda rooting for him and then just go "oh no..." and start hating him.

@@deepfriedeggnog6937It does happen. Other day at the Drive Thru and there was no line. They had me drive around and park. Waited forever, only for them to bring the wrong order and then had to wait again. All said and done it was 30-40 minutes (based on how much of my lunch break it took and drive time to/from). That wasn’t the only time either. I have more than once [before I started preordering on the app] waited and waited while being completely ignored to put in my order so long I eventually had to leave because I ran out of time. Then, there was during COVID when it somehow took so long to get from the mic to the window (2-3 cars) that the online orders (give code at Drive Thru) were disappearing from the system. This was about 10-15 minutes per car. Absolutely insane for Fast Food.

Watch the movie, it's kind of about that - but it wasn't like that at all in this scene. It started out with two brothers named McDonald actually running a small, local, nice burger restaurant (maybe a few more small ones, but no large operation by any means). Then the customer in this scene is a business man of sorts, joins in with some ideas, and made it a whole other thing than just "two brothers running a burger shop together". These original McDonald brothers were actually geniuses, they must have had one of the largest impacts on fast food in modern history (perhaps without realizing it themselves)! It's a good movie, worth watching and quite relaxing/chill, and this is actually just the opening scene. Edit: the movie is called "The Founder" by the way, couldn't remember it when I first wrote the comment

It was actually like a year or two later after he got some franchises going. Kroc was breaking even for awhile, despite being insanely popular, he got approached by a guy who worked in finance(I think?) who got him to instead buy property and lease it to people wanting to get in on the franchises. This was the turning point that got franchisees to start following quality control and sell burgers consistently to pay back the lease on said property in return for operating and collecting profits off the franchise. Then he shafted the McDonald brothers after gaining so much capital from profits that he forced them out through attrition in court. Kroc was completely out of the right but could weather all the legal fees of extending the court disputes and got the McDonald brothers to settle.

In those days, there were benches running down the length of the outside of the building on both sides. Parking places circle the perimeter of the parking lot with trash cans located every other space. This encouraged eating in the car, and as with drive-in theatres, the hamburger drive-in became part of the fabric of American modern culture in the 50s. My Dad was absolutely nuts about McDonald's, so whenever Mom was gone during the summers, we'd live on McDonald's, Pizza, Chinese Carryout, & chain family style Steakhouses, like Ponderosa, Bonanza, York, Western Sizzlin', etc.
