Two years later, and the season two finale of The Mandalorian remains such a roller coaster of emotions. I vividly remember the joy of seeing Luke Skywalker in his prime. The heartbreak of Mando and Grogu having to say goodbye, complete with Mando having a “Let me... look on you with my OWN eyes.” moment. And then the excitement of learning that Temuera Morrison and Ming-Na Wen were going to star as Boba Fett and Fennec Shand in their own show. God, the whole thing was exhilarating.

The crazy thing is that to me that the sequel trilogy seemed to be an attempt to leave the original trilogy behind and subverting expectations of what Star Wars should be that I didn't believe for a second Luke would appear until the episode aired - even with all the rumors swirling around. Then I started to get hopeful when I saw the X-Wing... then the cloaked figure leaving the X-Wing... then the black and white image of a Jedi. When the scene went to color, I screamed "green lightsaber" and I started crying like a baby. This is what I wanted to see since 1983. Then Mando looking at Grogu "with his own eyes" as you pointed out made the tears well up again but I held them back... Until R2 showed up.

I was 7 when I watched Starwars in the theater. As children in my age group, Luke Skywalker was our hero growing up. Because of my lifetime investment in Star Wars, and because it began for me as a child, I was struck with emotion at this episode. Any sadness or disappointment over the child separating from Mando was instantly replaced by unexpected joy. There could not be a more perfect individual to receive Grogu. This final episode was the best Starwars content I have ever seen. A fantastic cast of actors (including the authentic voice of Mark Hamil), and the technology to do a good enough job of making young Luke come back to the screen really put the finishing touches on this masterpiece. I'm sure they'll summarize at the start of season 3 but there's a lot of The Mandalorian and Grogu in ep 5-7 in The Book of Boba Fett. Like gigantic story beats taking place and they take their time, these aren't rushed plot points. It's either episode 5 or 6 that is just The Mandalorian, no Boba at all. Watching at least episode 5 and 6 even without full context of the Boba show is probably better than just jumping into season 3 blind. It's not the Boba Fett show for those two, it's The Mandalorian season 2.5. Was thinking of a way to explain the cult he was raised in, why he can't remove his helmet. Imagine the entire Earth was nuked but a group of fundamentalist Christians somehow survived. Like The Amish or Westborough Baptist. I grew up reading the expanded universe, so seeing Prime Power Luke wrecking shop and being the badass Jedi he was in the expanded universe was... so emotional for me. You have to watch Book of Boba Fett. It is basically Mandalorian season 2.5. Several key Mandalorian characters appear, and their fates change from where season 2 makes you think they will be at the start of season 3.

The guy who plays Boba Fett is NOT the same guy from the original movies, he died. The guy who originally played him was an British actor called Jeremy Bulloch. The one from the series is called Temuera Morrison (who ALSO played Jango).

BOBF does focus primarily on Boba Fett, but Mando and Grogu do enter into it, and I think you may like seeing Boba’s journey to where he is and what he’s doing from here. Aren’t you curious to at least see how he survived getting swallowed by the Sarlacc?

FUN FACT: Due to the fact that Yoda's species ages very slowly and is rather small to begin with, people forget to realize that Grogu is quite often the oldest person in the room. Its been established that he was well into his 50s by the time this series takes place, making him roughly the same age as Darth Vader.

Not only was it a dream come true to see young Jedi Master Luke Skywalker at the peak of his powers after nearly 40 years but the way he's portrayed here is in line with how the character was portrayed in the "expanded universe" (" " to indicate one year it's all considered cannon, one year it's not, one year some of it is, another the previous year isn't but other stuff is... Ladies and Gentlemen, Star Wars!) that we saw in books, comics and video games. In the books from the 90s Luke does study and learn techniques from all sides of the force including some from the dark side. So him force choking/crushing The Dark Trooper like Darth Vader would have done is in line with that.

It's funny how Bill Burr really isn't a super fan of Star Wars but his portrayal as Mayfeld is very well done especially when talking to the Imperial officer about Operation: Cinder. Also I'm sure EVERY Star Wars fan (myself included) freaked out majorly when Boba launched the seismic charge on the TIE Fighters.

You absolutely MUST watch Book of Boba Fett before Mando season 3 is released. Lucasfilm made the strange decision to continue Mando & Grogu's story on that show. No spoilers, but it is a must watch. Also, don't listen to the negative Nancies...BOBF is actually a really good show with only a couple of minor missteps. Much Love.

Btw, if you're going to watch "Andor", might want to group it: 1-3, 4-6, 7, 8-10, 11-12. It's probably best to be watched in arcs, with episode 7 being a bit of an outlier. It will flow better in that order.

I always tear up a little watching this, and not just because of the Mando/Grogu moment. To set the context, this came out during the first Christmas of the pandemic. We stayed home for the holidays and it was cozy, but lonely as I am used to big family get togethers. I also have been a Star Wars fan for decades and Luke Skywalker in particular was a really important character to me, one the sequels didn't treat how I would have liked (I don't totally hate The Last Jedi, but it's still not how I would have told the story). So that moment where a lone X-Wing shows up and I realized it might actually be Luke Skywalker, and the slow reveal of his lightsaber, his glove, etc, until you finally see his face (and hear the Force theme for the first time in the show). It was just an incredible moment I don't even know how to convey. But then what really made it special was that I spent the next several days of that Christmas holiday watching reaction videos (something I had never really been interested in). Watching people in every demographic and stage of fandom (old time fans, new fans, etc) just...scream and weep and laugh and jump out of their seats...at that specific moment was something that was really special in a very dark and lonely time. It was one of the few times the fandom was truly united too, and in a way it spoke to the power of storytelling/heroes.

So, quick note about the Dark Saber: Mandalorians, regardless of what factions they align themselves with, are a warrior culture down to their core. Whomever wins the Dark Saber in combat is proven to be not only fit to rule but also the most powerful warrior. If the saber is not won in combat, it's considered a curse and a sign of a weak ruler. Bo Katan was hesitant to take it, because she knows the "curse" all too well. I say check out the Rebels animated series, it'll teach you more about it.

Moff Gideon eventually realizes who just showed up and you can see, for the first time, real fear on his face. To everyone who wasn't in the room on Death Star 2.0, all they knew was Skywalker was the guy who walked into the room (in handcuffs) with the Emperor and Vader and walked out carrying Vader. They all knew how scary and powerful those two were so a guy who can dispatch them both is a real problem. That's why Gideon tries to off himself - pure terror.

That guy Boba killed at the end was Bib Fortuna, Jabba the Hutt's right-hand man and was seen in Return of the Jedi when Luke walked into Jabba's palace. He obviously gained a lot of weight in the 5 years since Return of the Jedi, LOL! I do not know if you realized it or not, but Mando was repeating back to Moff Gideon the same thing he said to Mando in last season's finale about Grogu. Though, as heart-warming as it was to hear Mando say that, I still think it would've been better to have a sneak attack and not let Gideon know they were coming. Something about Disney Star Wars I really appreciate they've been doing a lot of lately with their novels, movies, tv shows, etc, is to show that defining who is good and who is bad is not really so black-and-white in the Star Wars universe. Not everyone working for The Empire is bad and not everyone working for the Rebels is good. There is a lot of grey area. For example, Mayfield worked for The Empire, but that does not mean he agreed with everything they did and did not have a heart. Operation Cinder was not only mentioned in The Mandalorian, but also talked about in a Star Wars comic book and a few canon novels as well. Even though you were given the history and backstory (e.g. Ahsoka. Bo-Katan, Boba Fett), there is still a lot of story in The Clone Wars series and Star Wars Rebels as a continuation that, after seeing all those animated episodes, will help make these Mandalorian episodes even more emotional once you establish a deeper connection to those characters. There are videos you can watch online where people have put that entire Luke hallway fight sequence to different songs, some of which are hilarious, and others are more fitting and make the scenes even more intense to watch with the right music playing. Even though I cried for Joy seeing Luke, I admit I also kinda wish Ahsoka had arrived. Did you notice the look of fear in Gideon's eyes when he realized Luke had come? By the way, without spoiling anything, Fennec Shand does appear in another Star Wars show that takes place much earlier than this show, which adds even more history and nuance to her own character but give subtle connections to other characters as well. Also, FYI, because you have not yet watched The Clone Wars series yet, you will also lack some of the backstory and significance of some characters when you see The Book of Boba Fett show. It does not mean you cannot enjoy the show for what it is, but just like this season of The Mandalorian, you will need to be told some of their own history and backstory as well. You will want to see The Book of Boba Fett. It continues the story, that is all I'll say.

Do not skip Book of Boba Fett & move on to the next season of Mandalorian (which isn't out yet) General consensus is that Book of Boba Fett isn't as good, but you don't want to skip it because I'm quite certain that there are events from the Boba Fett show that are important to know before moving on. If you really don't want to watch all of Boba Fett you can probably skip a lot of it. but you need to watch the last couple of episodes (at least, might be the last three - I don't remember for sure).

The guy you saw Boba shoot during the after credit scene, you've seen before. His name was Bib Fortuna. You saw him in Jabba's Palace in Return of the Jedi. He was the one Luke did the mind trick on. It was always assumed he died on the Sail Barge when it blew up, but I guess he stayed behind at the palace when Jabba went to execute Luke, Han, and Chewie.

I think Cassie will find the ending bittersweet like most people. Mando did what he was charged to do and Grogu could not be in better hands than Luke, but, of course, Mando is like a Father to the kid, so it's a bit sad.

This series saved the Star Wars franchise for most of us that watched Star Wars starting in the beginning. The new movies 7-9 completely destroyed everything we loved, mostly knowing how great of a Jedi Luke had become only to be turned into a whiny baby. This was Luke on the level none of us had ever seen but always wanted. He got his Vader moment when he walked through those Dark Troopers like they weren’t even a challenge. It brought so much happiness to the end of 2020, we have Jon Favreau to thank for a lot of this. Trust me, we all cried at the end as well.

The guy Boba killed at the end was Bib Fortuna, Jabba the Hutt's right hand man from Return of the Jedi. You might not have recognized him because a) he was a very minor character in that movie, and b) he clearly gained some weight since he took over Jabba's territory after the Hutt's death. But now that Bib's dead, Boba's running things on Tatooine.
