It's sad that the Marco Polo was scrapped, what a nice ship!

Now she is on her way to Alang to be turned into razors and Toyotas. Such a shame for a end of a one of a kind vessel. RIP Marco Polo.

She looks like the ships I sailed on many years ago. They were with Sunquest Vacations. The Sun Dream, Sunbird, and Carousel. Enjoyed every minute.

I first saw the Alexander Pushkin in dry dock in around 1967 whilst on a school cruise on the TS Baltika, another Russian ship. Many years later in around 2017 I was delighted to cruise on Marco Polo to Norway. So sad to know she ended up beached in India for scrap 😢

Sailed on the Pushkin from Bremerhaven, Germany to St. Petersburg (Leningrad) in the fall of ‘72 when I was 11 years-old. Got stuck in the elevator for about an hour.

Sailed on her when we returned from Canada in November 1979. She was then operated as the Alexander Pushkin by the Baltic Shipping Company. The voyage was from Montreal to Tilbury and should have taken 9 days, however we hit a huge hurricane in the North Atlantic with a 20m+ swell, yes that's right a 20m+ swell. This added a further 5 days to our journey. The ship, I believe was built initially as a Arctic research vessel so came with a highly strengthened hull. During the hurricane the passengers were not allowed on deck due to the 140mph+ winds, and she sustained some cosmetic damage as we were hit by several rogue waves, but coped well with the conditions. Since then I have been fortunate to sail on a great number of other cruise ships but none as tough as her I have to say, considering her age was built like a floating battle tank. I was hoping after the pandemic to travel on her again but was saddened to hear that CMV had gone into liquidation and she is now to be scrapped.

At 33:20 the captain shouts "Hard to port" then shouts "hard to starboard" like his first command was a mistake.

future passengers should be aware that they have trouble getting people to shore at various destinations. Only three tenders running causing significant delays at every port. Given that many of the clientele are elderly they simple are not organised enough to make a cruise with them enjoyable. very poor.
