It’s been my personal observation that Keanu Reeves is very deliberative about the choices of projects he decides to commit himself to. Catherine Anne Moss, Lawrence Fishbourne, and the entire cast has that same dedication. Watching this bts, shows what REAL dedication is. Let us not forget Hugo Weaving as an actor. He does his character in all three films so well, I hated him! He made villainy so convincing I wanted to kick his ass! That’s how good an actor you are, Mr. Weaving!

Overall, in the first movie (an absolute, incredible and insane masterpiece!), the effects were serving the mind-blowing storyline. For the next two, it was unfortunately mostly the opposite. Because the first movie was so successful, budgets went through the roof and the crew could do anything they wanted effect-wise. Because of that, movies 2 and 3 effects were of course still pioneering and mind-altering but somehow had more of a hollow quality to them, much to the detriment of the overall quality of those sequels. Don't get me wrong all three movies are EPIC and I can't wait for number 4 (...although a bit nervously as I am so hoping it will recapture the flavour of #1).

@piobu5357

I feel like some of that 'hollow quality' stems from disconnecting the events of the movie from reality. Even the craziest events of Matrix 1 happened in a military building, on a market, in a subway, etc. Cars and people were usually in sight, and that grounded the events of the movie as something relatable. This is why the best scenes of Reloaded happened on the highway, and Zion's siege and the final Smith fight are harder to connect to, and harder to muster excitement for. The antagonists of the first movie were the Police, Military, and G-men, too, meanwhile the Merovingian goons looked all silly, and there were ghosts, werewolves, and rogue powerful programs everywhere in the sequels. The leather costumes got out of control, and became ridiculous, by the end, too - no one dresses like that. That's no way for low profile hackers and 'terrorists' to dress, they'd stand out anywhere. To this day I'm baffled by the direction they took the movies in, and why they didn't explore the surface, or the machines, and their city - Animatrix did more for the lore, and the world of Matrix, than the 2 movies ever did, and it was all the better for it. Why did they focus on fights, CG and scope, and why did they dumb down all the philosophical concepts to 'purpose' and 'cause and effect'? Stuff that a third-grader grasps? And since we're talking anime fights, why are the power levels all over the place, too? Morpheus gets utterly beaten by Smith in like a minute in the first movie, but he can keep up with agents in the sequels, even though Neo says they've been upgraded?

Generally the production crew is seen as purely professional with no sense of fun. This is completely wrong; most crew are the most twisted, funniest characters you will ever see. Professionalism and creativity is what gets you great results, but humour gets you through the day. When sound goes speed, I instantly focus on getting the best dialogue possible whilst staying completely out of sight, thats for both direct and indirect (such as casting shadows), but once the director calls cut, its back to some humour to keep everyone awake. As demanding and exhausting the work may be, it is one of the most fun and rewarding jobs you could do, especially if the post team don't moan at the results.

Everything about this movie in visual department was great. People have worked so hard to make sure this was a very appealing film to watch for years to come. However, the story behind Matrix Reloaded & Revolutions is where I do not have much care for. Lets be honest, the first Matrix was gonna be really hard to follow up. Though, I expected much for these films, but the storyline in regards to Zion and Smith taking over the Matrix was a let down. Starting with Zion, its part of the real world and honestly I just didn't care much for it. I am here to watch Neo, Trinity, and Morpheus in the Matrix and not your average joes in the real world (you know what i mean). Than with Smith, I mean okay fine he is the main villain in this story, however, I felt they missed a huge opportunity introducing much more advance A.I. Programmers that can either be as closed in powers/fighting to Neo or Match it and not by chance that Smith will have those powers. Smith is a great villain please don't think that I don't think he is, is just I expected greater threat from somewhere else within the Matrix. I just wouldn't believe that a world like the Matrix run by advance A.I. would allow Neo or Smith to run wild and they somehow don't have power to stop them, other than the Oracle/Architect old people that their only show of power is their intellect. I only hope that the new set of Matrix movies will have a different approach in storyline and a lot less of Zion if possible.

The more they add visual effects the more it looks fake and cheap. No amount of visual effects can replace the novelty of the philosophy/script and authentic actors getting their hands dirty. Those are priceless and stand the test of time as did Matrix 1. Matrix 1 was revolutionary because it introduced the idea that the life we know is just a simulation, everyone was tired of lies and was captivated to learn the true reality. People choose authenticity to lots of action. Like the neat movements of Neo, the kind and wise Oracle go a long way. Vs fast happening action where you don't have time to see anything, hence no time to experience. We loved the bullet time. Now, if Matrix 4 is going to be produced in vitro (as in synthetic green room, game-style), it's going to be just sad...
