The Mecha King Bob-omb completed in 1 turn/1 turn. This is an improvement from the previous video, which did the first battle in 2 turns. A shoutout goes to natnew for being the first to do the second battle in 1 turn.
Attempts were made to clear the first battle in 1 turn, to no avail. The islands are spread too far apart for Mario to stomp his way to the end, and other characters couldn't get close without sacrificing their team jump. Everything changed when the extended glide time glitch was discovered, which provided enough distance to reach the final island. Because the jumper has to hold a Bob-omb, the set up required for the glitch was trickier than what is done normally.
Battle 1 Characters:
Rabbid Mario - With the best ground movement in the game, he can reach the pipe without a team jump. Any character can fill this role anyway. Aqua Dash inflicts Splash while doing as little damage as possible.
Edge - Stormblade is needed to set up the extended glide time glitch. Electroid is used to suspend the enemy in mid air so Stormblade activates a second time, extending the glide even further.
Peach - She is tied for the longest glide in the game, which is needed to reach the final island. Screech lures the Bob-omb closer to the pipe, which gives more time to properly set up everything when it starts ticking.
Battle 2 Characters:
Edge - She can move where she needs to after dashing twice, then Flying Blade does a lot of damage to Mecha King Bob-omb. Glitter and Oozer Master give an Attack Master bonus, and the former is used to move the boss, triggering reaction shots.
Mario - Hero Sight does a sizable amount of damage to Mecha King Bob-omb in case Luigi does not crit. Reflect's Attack Master increases his weapon damage. Starburst increases every Hero's weapon damage.
Luigi - Steely Stare powered by Vampastra and Scoper Master's Critical Buddy does most of the damage we need to Mecha King Bob-omb.
Battle 1 Notes:
-The battle is played on Demanding difficulty so the Flamin' Golem can survive to trigger two Stormblade attacks.
-A POW Block and a Move Boost are used to clear the level. There may be a way to avoid using the Move Boost if there is a way to keep the Flamin' Golem alive to trigger 3 Steely Stare shots, but that seems unlikely even with level 4 Electroid and Aqua Dash.
-Edge's skill tree uses 160% damage on Stormblade instead of 195% so she does less damage. She needs at least 1 damage upgrade so she can access the skill tree upgrades that gives her a second reaction attack.
-Rabbid Mario is positioned to throw the POW Block before the Bob-omb is triggered. This part of the set up is easier to do when the Bob-omb's timer isn't active.
-Not all bounce angles caused by the POW Block will trigger both Stormblade attacks properly. The set up isn't super precise, but it still only works if you use the general angle used in the video.
-Edge is used over Mario and Luigi since the latter two do more damage to their reaction shots. Using one of the two brothers in the first battle would mean more time spent adjusting their Sparks and skill tree for the second battle as well.
-The angle Peach flies after team jumping off Edge is important as player input won't change her trajectory while the glitch is taking place. She needs to go slightly diagonal in order to head towards the final island. After jumping off the jump pad, I position the camera to get a better view of Peach's jumping angle so I can set it up correctly before she jumps on Edge.
-The game will not allow you to switch characters immediately after throwing a POW Block, you can only switch after about a second has passed. You also can't spam the button or else you'll keep switching to different characters. I personally press the button 2/3 times, then jump on reaction to the switch. Since the Pro Controller D-pad can be finnicky, you might want to remap the button elsewhere.
Battle 2 Notes:
-The battle is played on Relaxing difficulty so King Bob-omb has lower health. Since the last battle is played on Demanding, the game needs to be switched to Relaxing between battles.
-Mecha King Bob-omb reactivates his shield if he is under 60% health. This is bypassed by doing chip damage and taking him out with a barrage of reaction shots. This is why it's important to use Flying Blade first.
-Mario moves out of sight for his reaction shot on Mecha King Bob-omb. This is done so Luigi can get two shots on the boss, when Mario would get two shots while Luigi only gets one otherwise. Sometimes, Mario's reaction shot won't trigger after Luigi uses two. I'm not sure why this happens, but it's still your best bet in case Luigi doesn't crit with his 80% shots.
