You just hit me with a ton of feels I didn't see coming. I've never heard Haruhi and Kyon's relationship described like that, amazing work! I'm definitely watching more of your videos, thank you for being here!

When people skip or disregard endless eight, they're completely forgetting that without it the twist at the end of Disappearance wouldn't be nearly as impactful.

@CianaCorto

While I agree that it takes away some of the impact, they fucked up by making it 8 episodes. No one liked it at the time. The director apoligized. The only reason they went for it was because they ended up with too many episode slots after changing the disappearance arc intoa movie, and decided to make endless eight actually 8 episodes when it should have been 2, maybe 3 episodes top. We got the point. And while it's a masterclass in cinematography, and the episodes are visually impressive and naratively thematic, practically, for the average anime viewer, and even as a Haruhi fan, endless eight is a waste of episode slots and time.

@CianaCorto I feel that it has a unique purpose, tho. And I'm aware that purpose is by its nature a double-edged sword. But you have to admit it makes for one HELL of an impact later down the line. The movie does so damn much to make up for the whole thing that it's actually incredible

Okay I know this was made 4 years ago but like I'm now a big fan of your channel lmao, Haruhi suzumiya was my second anime ever and I miss it so much. I do rewatch it like every month but it's just not the same as watching it the first time. Also I liked the endless 8, I'm not sure why but it was so different from everything else i have watched and it brought me to love the anime even more for some reason. But the movie, there are literally no complaints from me, it really was a masterpiece and I've rewatched that probably more times than I have watched the series. If I had to do an essay at school about a "show" we have watched, I would 100% pick this anime. I can't imagine a world without this anime and Kyon's little sister saying "Kyon kun denwa"

I never really "got" this show. I watched it when I was pretty new to anime, and I got the basic appeal of it, of course, but I only ever perceived it as a self-aware comedy series. I only really loved the last episode of the first season. Thanks for making this video, so that I can finally understand what Haruhi had to say. I think I'll finally get around to watching S2 now.

I honest to god don't know why I haven't watch your stuff sooner, but the way you describe characters and the relationships between characters to be absolutely remarkable. Perhaps this is my moe fanboy bias in me, but I still love the Haruhi anime so much.

Nice review I must say. I found your channel cause I was watching one of digi's video's and he mentioned a guy named "Subsonic sparkle" and I'm like "This person can't seriously have that name and be a serious analytical review right?" Looks like I was wrong and you just upload this video 2 hours ago when I'm seeing it and its amazing. I love good analysis video's and yours seem so good I almost want to change my policy of not subbing to reviewers who haven't reviewed Hunter x Hunter 2011 (I won't of course I have a reputation to maintain but keep up the good work and get to a long HxH review sometime ;) )

I'm so glad you made this! I watched the entirety of Endless Eight in one day when I was sick a couple years ago, and while I wouldn't watch it again (I usually just skip to the last episode when I rewatch) I remember the way it actually felt while I was watching it for the first time--it started out fun and then a feeling of nervousness really built up for the next few episodes. Another thing about it that I feel like is dismissed most of the time is its effect on the tone of the movie. By sitting through all eight episodes that first time, you kind of experience a bit of the frustration that might have led to Yuki's actions in Disappearance. I'm not really in love with it or anything, but I can understand and accept the decision.

Well regardless of whether you're next video is on Geass (or that other one you mentioned...) Let me just say you knocked this one right out of the park. 10 years later and it feels like the greater internet anime community see Haruhi as a passing fad whose only merit is the memetastic ED and the basically perfect movie. So I was happy to find this as something that actually engages with the show as its own thing, with themes and such. Now if only there was an affordable rerelease of the anime, or a new book would come out to continue or finish the series.
@warman13x

I actually completely agree with this. Haruhi Suzumiya is still one of my favorite anime series, and I don't think it would be an exaggeration for me to say that Disappearance is my favorite anime film of all time; he wasn't joking when he said it was a masterpiece. And even though many people can't stand Endless Eight, I've always had an odd sense of respect for it. Especially due to how well it set up the movie. (I still tell anyone interested in the movie to try and force themselves through those eight episodes first since I truly believe the end result is worth it.). Anyways, before I start rambling too much, I'll stop here. I just wanted to post a small comment about my own love for the series. :)

This is just a great video. I love the Haruhi Suzumiya franchise, that includes of course the light novels. Although I think Endless Eight could have been a lot better, I reconise it as a good experiment and I don't hate it. And yes, the relationship between Haruhi and Kyon is the seller for me. It's just briliant. And The Disappearance movie is a masterpiece. And the meta anime is hilarious. And technically (animation and soundtrack) is brilliant. There's so much to talk about this anime!

+Bledar Martinaj - I feel like the sun has set on Haruhi's time, as well as it's relevance. Another season would feel a little misplaced in the current anime landscape, we've got more than enough smarmy, self-aware light-novel adaptions to go around now - even if Haruhi was an exceptionally good one.
@Commenter839

The Mediocre at best Nagato spinoff anime (as well as a Haruhi reference in official art for Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid), gives me just a small inkling of hope for a S3 someday. It's almost like I feel someone wants to keep the franchise alive, but because Tanigawa sucks at publishing consistently, they can't.
@RealismFTW
7 жыл бұрын
Doesn't help that Kyoani sold the license...But yes, I also feel like it's being kept alive just barely through the occasional reference here and there. I so fucking wish Tanigawa could publish another one.. It's questionable how well it would sell though. Maybe it would revive the franchise. Or it would it would prove that it was indeed. dead...

In regards to your conclusion: "if you have the strength to finally let other people in you can finally see the world as beautiful" great, now all I need are friends. I'll just walk down to Friend Store, and pick up a pack of friends. "relationships can be an adventure in their own right" I'll just walk down to the Relationships Store and pick up a relationship. But yeah, I think this is something that you learn as you grow up, and I think the best age to enjoy this show is around 14-16, if you want it to really have an impact. Also, a bit about the whole "accepting your limitations" thing: Yeah, accept your limitations, there's no need to hate yourself for not being more, but at the same time, if there's something you need to be in order to get what you need in order to be happy, it's time to push your limitations. Also, one more thing, the whole "if you have friends you'll find happiness and grow stronger" is getting really annoying. I get it, social outcasts are doomed to endless suffering, you don't have to rub it in my face, Persona series, Ai no Hana, K-on, Haganai, Lucky Star, and this show. But then Madoka Magica is all "friendships aren't even real, they're just people not wanting to be alone, and using other people" Goddamnit.
