They aren't nicknamed the stealership for nothing. Thanks for being an honest mechanic. I have been one since 1992 and always do the customer right. I always feel bad for the new customers who have been constantly ripped off by other shops and you have to reassure them that everything is okay and after that first visit getting their car fixed for less than the other shops quoted and being up front about everything. All the bad shops suck because they make all of us look bad. Had one customer come in with a funny idle and another shop said they needed a new idle control valve. The floor mat was jammed against the accelerator causing the idle issue. I put the mat in correctly and did it in front of the customer right when they brought it by. I didn’t charge anything and told them that if it happened again that was probably the problem and told them to replace the mats. Made a life long customer and their whole family brings their cars to me. I like being able to help people.

Two techs there would do awful things such as spit sunflower seeds into the engine, drop other random items into the engine, wipe their own feces all over the engine for the next guy and other sorts of bs. Once they poured a whole gallon of water into an engine before they left work. The lot attendant came for the car and I told him what happened and to wait while I changed the oil again to fix the problem. We tried to save cars when we could. I told management what was going on and they ignored the situation. The big dudes found out I told and they almost gave me beating after work. One of the mechanics came over and saved my ass. First repair shop I worked for was near a rich neighborhood, when the owner saw where they lived, he had us do all sorts of unneeded repairs, and they paid.

That's terrible. Why didn't one of you mechanics let the people know they were getting fleeced????

Meh, I’m half and half on how ethical this is, cause if a shock was just slightly wet and told a rich guy it needs to be replaced and he paid, at least he’s got new shocks yanno? And sometimes that was just some pocket change for him who cares man it’s a win win

@@nicholaslask9897 Get what you're saying. I was young didn't know any better. Next shop I worked at was in a farm community where they didn't have money and we only replaced what was needed, bug difference.

I had a very similar experience with my 08 Honda accord a local mechanic told me I needed a whole new motor, and I took it up to the Honda place and they fixed it. It needed a new starter in new connections to the battery and a couple other small things.

You do what I do and get to the bottom of the root cause. I like how this guy works/conducts business it's a shame not everyone does it like him and is just out to make a buck. I believe in customer service because without them you have no business.

Those type of shenanigans where they tell you that you need this, you need that, is what made me learn the craft. I can do all the maintenance and replacement myself, and im not even a mechanic, screw the majority of shops but bless the few that are still doing an honest work, like Dave.

But of course a dealership would come up with that bogus story of a new engine!! They'd get paid tens of thousands of dollars for that! It's no wonder they are called STEALERships 😂😂

There isn't much money in engine work, as compared to brake or suspension work. Engine work takes too long, ties up shop bays.
