In recent Marvel comics it was revealed that Thor's mother was not Freya/Frigga, but Gaia. Fans were outraged, but, based on what you just told us, it seems Marvel rectified an error they made when creating their version of Thor and are now sticking more to the original myth. *EDIT: In even more recent comics they decided to change this once again, and now Thor's mother seems to be the Phoenix-force (the all powerful entity that once possessed Jean Grey, which led to 2 failed movies).

@@StarSeedAcademy8 That literally doesn't answer my question. Thor and the serpent only had two interactions. The first time the serpent had NO SAY in the cat illusion. The giant was trying to trick Thor and Loki so he put an illusion on the serpent. The serpent never agreed to this and as far as he knew, he was still circling the planet and was suddenly being lifted. Thor being mad at him for being a cat that couldn't be picked up was not his doing. Therefore, his second interaction with wanting revenge makes 0 sense. The serpent did nothing wrong and here Thor is just messing with him. I already know that the Aesir aren't the best of beings to begin with but this doesn't seem right to me. How are they enemies when neither of them were at fault the first time? I know attempting to put logic towards something like this is useless but I can't help myself. It's just.... Stupid. Almost as bad as the Greek/Roman mythology. Not as bad, but kinda. Like Loki's children being cast aside to avoid the apocalypse only to solidify the apocalypse. @@franklinbonnefoy2295 What has to be understood is this is not the first incident between Thor & the serpent. Just as ancient civilizations there is always a serpent who is at war with the side that is for good for example Egyptian stories. I was simplifying it that the serpent is his enemy so it doesn’t matter whether the serpent appeared to know or not that it was part of the trick on him. But about Thor's birth mother is a bit became a bit tricky to pint point who she is because in Jason Aaron's Avengers run Phoenix force got reveal as the real Thor mother but again in newest issue in Donny Cates's Thor run, Thor appear to be actually Gaea/Mother Earth's birth son because in that issue Thor call out Gaea help and call her mother, in the end he regain the power to control earth. I think that Thor was just having too much fun with the insults to care. He also probably went through Odin’s antics on a daily basis and decided to humor him. A sweet father-son dynamic.

Have you ever thought of doing a comparison series? A lot of these Gods also have similar & almost the same stories as other Gods who have same attributes. It stops sounding so mythical when you see different cultures from completely different time periods & locations all telling the same tales. This even plays into biblical stories going back to Egyptian & Sumerian one’s or Greek gods to Hindu ancient texts.

Thats cause they were all made around similar time periods and with so much traveling from the Vikings amd colonization and cultures learning from each other thats the results

@@James-ov5kg no that is not true, cuneiform for example predates Christianity by Hundreds if not thousands of years, which already tells a flood story down to releasing a bird after the flood and sacrificing to God(s).

my guess for the similarity would be that those stories are less recounting of past events and more educational stories, and people back then had similar values. i could be wrong of course but at least for the european panheons and myths it is plausible

I like the GOW rendition. I work at a railroad, and a lot of the tough, strong dudes look like just like that. Don’t diss the gut, just a product of beer. I think it was probably the most accurate.

Thank you for confirming what a Google search didn't: Thors mythical appearance! I was right about his red beard, his iron gloves; and the chariot pulled by goats! No matter how carefully I worded my inquiry, Google told me about the Thor from the MCU.😒

My husband's father follows the old Norse religion. So he grew up hearing about these stories and more. My husband does not practice it, though. He's Agnostic. He loved listening to this while I watching it.

Thor told Loki he would break every bone in his body... once a day... every day. He knew Loki would heal over night, so he wanted him to know that it would be a daily event for the rest of time.

Thor in Norse mythology can not fly at all, even with his hammer. Any flying he does is with the chariot pulled by magical goats. And while the hammer will return when he throws it, there is evidence that it does not just come to him when called, as evidenced by the story of the Jotun's stealing it and him not calling it back. Also the worthy lifting it part was also only Marvel.
@yokotubene

Correct. I was confused about that part. The chariot is what allows Thor to fly; not his hammer.

Fun fact: In Iceland, Norse mythology is taught in schools, especially from the book "Snorra Edda". (I know this from personal experience). We are also taught to read and write in old Norse runes called FUÞARK.

In Marvel (comics), Thor's mother IS really mother earth, Gaia. But, at the same time, his mother is also the Phoenix (Force). Gaia birth him, and Thor died when he was a newborn, and the PF gave him life again. So, 2 mothers. Odin dated and smashed them both too. Weird, I know, but true in recent comics.

Awesome video, you did it a good justice. I love the part where Oden basically tells thor ( 20:13 ) "If you go home now you might meet your wifes lover"... if you think about it if thor did... if thor went home, where would he be and who would he be with (his wife)... Thor is his wifes lover.
