Here’s a bit of history for those that do not know this. Alejandro Gomez Maganda was the first Mexican of Filipino ancestry to be governor of the state of Guerrero from 1951-1954 and his political party was PRI which stands for institutional revolutionary party which ruled Mexico for 70 years. Tubâ (Tagalog pronunciation: [tʊˈbaʔ]) is a Filipino alcoholic beverage created from the sap of various species of palm trees.[1] During the Spanish colonial period, tubâ was introduced to Guam, the Marianas, and Mexico via the Manila Galleons. It remains popular in Mexico, especially in the states of Colima, Jalisco, Michoacán, Nayarit, and Guerrero. Tubâ was also introduced to the Torres Strait Islands of Australia in the mid-19th century by Filipino immigrant workers in the pearling industry.[

This is such an awesome story, being part filipino, the mexican connection is barely mentioned too. I would say, it is important to note that Filipinos seemingly really only ended up in the coastal cities between Puerta Vallarta and Alcapulco. It is because of this, that the rest of Mexico never really encountered many Filipinos during the history and thus today, many Mexican people don't know of the connection and a lot of times, deny it. This happens with Filipinos too because many Filipino hear "Spanish Colony" and they stop there and only think of Spain, not understanding how Spain ruled the Philippines, which was through Nueva Espana (Mexico). I've read a lot of comments too from Filipinos denying any history with Mexico at all, its sad.

200 years Spanish Mexican Empire, 100 years direct Spanish Government thru Spain. It is long years of occupation. Filipinos are so nice and complacent. It took Rizal death to unite the Filipinos, young brilliant Doctor, polymath, polyglot lay down his life for the nation, and then Americans came, afterwards the Japanese occupation, and now the Incoming Chinese Communist invasion. Sad, but Filipinos will be resilient as they used to be rain or shine, life or death, they will rise up and move on!

This is awesome! I really appreciate you sharing this. There is so much that is not talked about in regards to the connections between the 2 countries. After Mexico declared her independence from the Spanish Crown, they even sent spies to start a rebellion in the Philippines. Also, during Mexico's struggle for independence, some Philippine born criollo officers in the military participated in some of the battles. The Spanish even called us "Indios" too. This is so awesome that you shared this. It is great to be BROWN!!!!! Viva Mexico y Viva Filipinas!!!!!!

We Filipinos say (in various languages in the islands) tata(y), nana, milpa, tocayo, palengke, tianguis, tamales, balbacua, and sometimes naide (instead of nadie). ¡¡¡Vivan nuestros lazos !!!!

@@gentilewarrior no, I'm not. I'm native American. I don't know anything about Spanish colonization in the "Philippines", but I know the terms of latino, hispanic and filipino are foreign labels. Latino and Hispanic means and the term filipino actually belong to Spanish settlers arriving on the islands of the "Philippines". And the Spanish language itself is from Spain imposed on native Americans south of the us border like yourself and "filipinos". I'm sorry, I'm not Asian. I'm native American and I speak lakota and follow my own ways. And I still don't know anything Spanish.

Should have went more in detail with it thousands upon thousands of slaves showed up in mexico concentrated in acapulco , guerrero and mexico city as well as puebla .. later the filipino and south asian slaves dispersed throughout all of western and central mexico from jalisco and colima to san luis potosi and yucatan and it wasnt only filipinos brought over to mexico there was thousands of south indians and bengalis as well as indonesians , cambodians , south east africans etc. They worked in agriculture on wealthy ranches as servants or laborers , as well as miners shipped to the north etc. there was lots of movement and migration in colonial mexico
