And the doors will put most of that market off. It's a strange decision to include them. Just like they said I'm the vid. An older pairing, especially the women, they would be an instant pass, and they would move in the Mazda for their Sunday convertible. Which would be a better sports car. Or a Jag for GT which would also be better, and better for the environment being a slightly used money model. This is why other OEMs aren't doing it, it's a small market and it's all but covered with great options. One of the big OEMs that share chassis and platforms will probably nail it. Cut the top of the Cupra born and you'd have a good starting point. That's what it will take to get in around the ice sports car price.

I know the doors seem kind of stupid, but.... When you are parked next to another car - and let's face it, cars have gotten wider and wider but parkingspaces have not - it is really helpful that the door opens upward like that, particularly in a low sportcar. I once read an article by a guy who had put Lambo-doors on his MGF (because he could), and he explained how helpful they were in France where cars park very close to one another. Ever since then whenever I have been in a tight space I can't help thinking how I would love that type of door on my own roadster - and it doesn't get easier with age to get one foot out of a narrow gap and get up to standing using just one leg -without scratching the neighbor's car. Of course when parked out in the middle of nowhere it just seems silly, but try in a parking lot next to an oversize SUV, and you will see why the doors are that way.

I'm afraid to say that, as a crazed Red Dwarf fan, Bobby getting out of any car near me would result in me delaying his bathroom and quavers mission, regardless of the uniqueness of the door. That said, I really like the doors. I was very hesitant in the early concepts but in the production model they do seem to be much quicker so less annoying than I feared. They are also quite practical for tight spaces and I do like the idea of popping them open as I approach the car. Also, I know what Jack means about kids being easily pleased, but when you're talking about sports cars they need to appeal to that inner child a little bit. That's why we drive them.

I've seen the Cyberster up close and personal at the first Everything Electric Live Show in London. It managed something few cars can - it made Yellow look good - really good. It's not as small as an MG classic sports car, but you barely notice because the proportions are so spot on. It's like when the Mini One was first released. Despite dwarfing an original mini it still managed to look small. The Mini Clubman by contrast looks like it ate a couple of Mini Ones for breakfast. The Cyberster is very pleasing on the eye and (despite Jack and Rob not liking them) the doors are very cool and also practical. They are easy to open in small spaces. With cars getting bigger and parking spaces staying the same size that's a definite bonus. I would love to cruise around in one during those five annual hours when we get sunshine in the UK. The fact that you can still benefit from the near silent electric drive chain if you want to talk with the roof down is delightful. Driving through the countryside topless (ooh-er) able to talk to each other about the sound of local wildlife is one of the treats of going electric that ICE-tech owners can only imagine.

When I drove it back to South Wales from Manchester, I was so surprised & impressed. Was it as thrilling as my Westfield? Of course not, but it handled very smartly and was effortless over the distance and nearly 40mpg. The MGF was never trying to be a Lotus and the Cyberster is exactly what MGs have always historically been - A practical, affordable sporting car that you can use every day. Against an MX5 it may seem pricy, but as a GT it's very good value compared to an F-type, Merc SL or a Z4.

I love the style and hope to get a test drive over the weekend. Disappointed that there is no storage in the front but could probably live with that if/when I can afford one.

I believe that thick bit above the front windscreen is to add rigidity, like all open top gt/ sports . As for the wobbly bits there in the seats seats😂😂😂 , great car like it and great review as always, keep it up ( spoken with a stiff upper lip ) 🤪🤪👍👍

Our summer Audi A5 convertible has the same issue, actually worse as I'm only 5'10" and the windscreen header rail is in my line of sight. The only way around it is to recline the seat, but this issue isn't just this car, as many convertible GT type cars also have low windscreen header rail.

Love the old MG brand here in the states, and love this new look. I would love to have heard you compare it to the MX5s. As far as the windscreen crossbar being so big it might be for rollover safety? Or as I remember the Tesla two seater, if the top was down you would grab the top of the windshield and could possibly break the glass. At the time was very expensive to replace. That might also be the reason for the doors opening the way do.

Jack was comparing cars on their driving style. He listed off the actual sporty EVs . In his opinion this car is not that, it’s a GT, a car type he then went on to define.

I like it, but I cant think of one plausible situation where I ask a response of a vehicle as in stop, go, left, right where a delay is good. Ive always accepted stop, left, right may include delays and historically go has been included until I drove my Tesla P85 and thats one of the main reason I bought it. If I want to accelerate slowly I just press the go pedal accordingly now and again I want to go instantly. Those doors, I figure in tight parking spaces you get more chance of getting in and out plus hardly lightly to ding anyone else in the process so I guess on balance good idea.

There should be more "personal happiness" EVs as unlike ICE they are always cheap and useful (excluding space compromises) to operate on a day to day basis. Another exemple is the M3P, ridiculous performance you can use everyday.

I have been saying for quite a while that we need a convertible Miata EV or a convertible Bug EV, and that the first one to market would sell like hot cakes. These doors are such a problem that I'm not sure about this one.. but if there's one on the used market in a couple of years I really might consider it. ALSO -- the guys were saying convertibles are not good for shopping... that's so wrong. Convertibles allow for stacking crap in them up high, and work well for shopping, assuming you're alone. Remember your troubles bringing home some lumber in a sedan? In a convertible, you point it vaguely UP and you can bring home 10 foot 2x4s -- just don't take the highway.

The doors are quite practical. You can open the door and get in and out when less than 18 inches from the car parked next to you. With conventional doors you'd be struggling. Plus they can be manually pushed to closer tolerances than the sensors might initially allow. The doors being fully automatic has quite flexible options. I've gotten so used to them that operating a conventional door seems rather archaic. 😂
