Souvenirs of pioneers Proof that the West was won These rotten beams will tumble down Replaced by the newer ones Weren't we fine gunfighters in another time? Were we celebrated writers after the war? After the war [Pre-Chorus] And history repeats itself But I don't know what for I've got all these souvenirs But I can't seem to find you anymore Souvenir (Now you're gonе, now you're gone) You werе here (I'm movin' on, I'm movin' on) How does it feel (After I'm gone) To be the ghost in the picture as it disappears? Souvenir [Verse 2] Souvenirs of privateers Our black flag in the sun Was taken down and passed around And put in a museum Weren't we fat cat tycoons of the Gilden Age In flower children costumes in the Bay And high as a summer day [Pre-Chorus] And history repeats itself But I don't know what for I've got all these souvenirs But I can't seem to find you anymore [Chorus] Souvenir (Now you're gone, now you're gone) You were here (I'm movin' on, I'm movin' on) How does it feel (After I'm gone) To be the ghost in the picture as it disappears? [Bridge] Our past is a foreign country The neighborhoods have changed I was the fool who got lucky You were the fool who flew straight [Chorus] Souvenir (Now you're gone, now you're gone) You were here (I'm movin' on, I'm movin' on) How does it feel (After I'm gone) To be the ghost in the picture as it disappears? [Outro] Our past is a foreign country The neighborhoods have changed And I was the fool who got lucky You were the fool who flew straight

I've grown to really enjoy this song, however I confess I was disappointed with the final version. I was listening to Tim working on this track on Twitch a few months ago and it was radically different. Heavy voice modulation (sort of like American Online) and had a more somber tone to it. Perhaps he felt it didn't fit with the rest of the record but I still thought it was better. I'm hoping they release "demo" versions of songs from this record like they have others and perhaps we'll get to hear it in it's original form.
@kevartney
2 жыл бұрын
I agree with you 100%. The demo really had that melancholy vibe that reminded me of Endless Summer. I would also love to hear the chip tune be more prominent without the drums drowning it out. It’s just such a nostalgic sound that reflects the vibes of Kids and really compliments the trilogy.

This has a populist appeal to the decline of the west concept that runs through the contemporary political right wing. The midnight always captured that solemn nostalgia of the good old days of the Anglosphere and America in particular for me but I didn’t realise they were doing it on purpose. I thought was just a collective unconscious feeling but maybe it was and now they are actually articulating it. Cool 😎

@@Si-mh2kn This album is much better than the Monsters for me and it's still growing on me! It has classic, spacious and amazing The Midnight sound. There is not a single bad track in it. On the other hand, the Monsters has a couple of tracks such as "Seventeen", "Prom Night", "Fire in the Sky", "Monsters" which are mediocre at best(imho). Of course, in the end, it all comes to personal preferences.

A computer, then a pizza zone cup? 🤔 Is this child abuse code hidden in the so called art? This stuff is everywhere and really bumming my spirit out. If this is the case, Jesus is coming soon whether I'm right or tripping but know this, God did seal certain men in a city marked for destruction by setting His seal between their eyes; those men who did sigh in their spirit for the wickedness that beset them.
