Of course there was. It was taken off the BBC...Also for Old Greg...Transphobic apparently....Even though hes a hermaphrodite.....Dont worry...We went through a bit of this in the 80s....The backlash in the 90s was glorious and resulted in shows like this. Intention is everything. The Spirit of Jazz was a homage to Julians love for jazz and all those legendary black musicians who influenced so many. Thats how things should be taken....in the way they were meant...

not particularly; someone in the audience cosplaying a character from the show - or if you're a retard, 'someone doing blackface' - was bound to warrant mentioning at some point or another. just drawing attention to someone who put in effort while attending the show, was the way i saw it.
@danjames4086

I know in the light of BLM we look at things differently these days. Maybe I was blinkered, but I never saw the Spirit of Jazz character as blackface..At least not in the Black and White minstrels/1970's racist sense. I always saw this character as more like the death spirits of Mexican culture. A bit like Papa Lazarou in League of Gentlemen. More of a grotesque/clown character than an attemt tp look like a black person.

Noel Fielding does a joke about this on one of the live shows. His character The Hitcher has a pet crow, who is at risk of raping the audience. He addresses whether rape is anything to joke about, but concludes it can be funny if it's s CROW doing the deed. If it's a person, different matter.
