Everyone in the comments skipped over the fact that the company Joe works for has total control of his housing, car, and healthcare. I actually heard on the news about the creation of cities like this. Soon, nobody will own their own home or car anymore. Plus the fact that we go above and beyond and the reward is free lunch, a pen, or mug 😮 This should be a documentary, not horror movie 😵💫🤷🏽♀️

THIS is why history should NOT be censored in schools. Because that’s literally what Hooverville was. It’s a mini-city that controls every aspect of life and even paid ‘workers’ (cough slaves cough) in hooverbucks that could only be used in Hoover owned shops. The air was so disgusting and the buildings so poorly built that it was common to walk past dead coworkers everyday. The workers that attempted to leave would be hunted down and imprisoned by other Hooverpeople.

Not for UK I guess......according to Jeremy Clarkson , ever since "company car" became "taxable income" , people are now driving their own car instead of "cars that company bought from them as part of their income. so both sides can get a lower rate on tax"

I ending felt like a episode ending, not a movie ending. I wanted him to meet Alex though. It did have a very erie tone, but maybe because i just left work. The ending i think he is still trapped because he signed the paperwork. I am surprised when he quit why they didnt mention this and honor it.

He needs to stay there to "burn the mf down" he needs to be on the inside. Plus, if he just plans on staying there and working, it may be because the company owns his house, car, insurance, and everything pretty much. So either he has no choice and has to work there or he is going to do what he said and burn it down. The ending makes plenty sense if you pay attention

Yes, he is definitively trapped in the simulation. Forever. The decor proves this quite blatantly. Empty rooms, pale blank walls, all kept simple to reduce the amount of stress put on the simulation itself or in other words, simply not adding anything that didn't need to be added.

Regardless of how the movie ended, this movie really explained the corporate world and how they have all these unrealistic expectations that at the end is meant to burn us out. I will always say do not put more into a job then you need to because 9 times out of 10 the hard work you may put in will not be valued or respected

Two days ago I was talking to my boyfriend about how we are probably just some code in a simulation, as I do every now and then. This time with the idea of what if we got here because we took over the lesser simulation under us while also discussing the inadequacies of chat GPT and just AI in general. It has so much room to improve. So eventually when that happens that will take over our simulation and so fourth. Then I put on this movie knowing very little about it, other than I like these trapped type movies. And behold it's about a simulation taking over a simulation. More proof that we live in a simulation. Ha. This always happens to me. As for the ending I think this might have a sequel or two depending on how popular this one is. Otherwise we will have to come up with our own ending, but I think you are right about the floors. Perhaps he is in a simulation he can literally never get out of. My other thought was that he was being punished for something in real life because the simulation was just so awful, but so is cooperate life I'm told.

Even though it dragged in places, I was still pleasantly surprised. The terror of feeling isolated and trapped in mundane reality of labor and responsibility. We're still mostly serfs and have no real idea of how the systems controlling our lives truly work. When he said he's going to burn it down, I assume he meant from the inside as an apparent company man. Not actually just burn the building down. If he's still in a simulation maybe this is just the next level of weeding out the independent thinkers vs those who are actually grateful for the stability offered by acquiescing to Mallard. They beat you down, instill you with fear and give you a little hope to keep you going to see what you're going to do with it.

One thing I thought was that Alex wasn’t real but just a way for them to connect with Joe. Alex said he escaped but they put him back but why not in the same cell where he wrote his name like they did Joe. I think the skeleton Joe saw at the beginning did belong to Alex. Another thing that stood out to me is when the guy was walking Joe to his office he mentioned the company getting bigger and says he probably thinks does anyone there knows he’s still alive then says “I do. Mallard does.” Like that was weird to me

Ducks are the symbol for ‘Freedom/Happiness’. The idea of working for a big company like is suppose to lead to Freedom and Hapiness but instead it’s a cheeky false name. Mallard are the typical duck with the green head and speckled bodies. So it’s literally working for a stereotypical company that promises things it’ll never actually provide. Just like orientation at every shit job.
