Janeway is a character. Believes that if it's important to her it should be equally or more important to everyone else. She pretends to be cool, even laid back, but is really quite the tyrant. It is always Janeway or the highway. Likes a good yes man.

She should have made clear to Seven that it wasn't an order, that would have been clear to most people but not her. But they're bound to have some down time and Seven seems like the type to want to stay busy. You're kind of right about Janeway, but in this situation I don't see a big problem with her request.

I thought this episode was fine. I mean, they're stuck out in space, they might as well do a episode to celebrate the new millennium. It was also about how history can change over time, but it didn't actually matter what Janeway's ancestor was like, the important thing is that she was inspired to be in Starfleet.

It really is quite mundane. Don't worry about it. The only real standout episode is the time travel one. The rest are self contained. Very formula.

Even ancient writings of Earth civilizations are more restored by historians and archeologists today than this VOY episode intended to be.

Exactly. There being a lot of shady politics in 24th century. Janeway is one of these well connected promotions. She doesn't like to see anyone else succeed, never once commended or promoted anyone in the 7 years they were out there.
@sarahberkner

@@Number6_ That was intentional, they didn't know how long they would be out there and she can't keep promoting people, there has to be a chain of command. I think the only people she promoted were at the beginning when they had to combine the crews, and she demoted Tom and then promoted him to the level he was before.

Indeed. 😅 I reckon that kind of Voyager's Millenium Gate story proves that you have to be more in restraint by chronology of futuristic inventions like that coming soon in your lifetime.

Neelix, being an intrusive pest, but then somehow knowing exactly what to say to a computer system like he'd grown up interacting with Federation computers. And then the computer somehow pulling information from Ferengi databases even though, and I can't stress this enough, Voyager is 75,000 lightyears from home. I doubt that for as massive as Voyager's computer is, it has ready access to the Ferengi internet, or has that information just in it.

You forgot the REAL LIFE TIME LINE OF VIEWERS AND OF THE SHOW ARE NOT COHERENT You can see that on the little girl on the Voyager. Several times the young actress had been ex changed not only to demonstrate her groth but also the passing time on the ship So in Ship Time the Voyageer had skipped over a few years. Time enough for Neelix to learn more about Federation Computers.

@@rogerlynch5279 No. They just aged her rapidly, cause she's an alien. Same with Wof's son Alexander. Every reference to how long Voyager has been lost in the Delta Quadrent corresponds to the number of seasons. I believe in the series finale, Janeway talks about having stranded her crew 7 years ago. It's been noted in several places that the writers didn't give a rat's ass for continuity on Voyager, either plot or character-wise. They had some banger episodes and some really trashy ones, but overall, the writer were there to do work and earn their paycheque, not to make a masterpiece, and therefore put in minimal effort, which I, as a fan with an analytical brain, am allowed to point out and noodle on.

Poor Captain Janeway. Her memory was way off kilter. They made her husband to be look much older, with no sort of appeal. They didn’t say if they had kids and grandkids, or were the just cousins. They did so few shows focusing on her past, and this episode is one of the series worst ones

@@TheUnsungVil I make no big deal around the matter of rather to view TNG or DS9. 👐 I like both of them due to their divergent view points & storytelling in Trekverse. VOY, on the contrary, bears several errors; one among them is Janeway's cranky temper along the way. For me, the arcs around the EMH, Belanna and later Seven are one of the main reasons to view VOY entirely. This episode of the Millenium Gate is worthy to fly off screen.

I thought it was fine. It's interesting how history can warp the facts. Star Trek isn't just about space, it's also about the future. There were also trying to do an episode to welcome the new millennium. I wonder what would have happened if they'd done an episode about the Y2K "crisis".
