Shaun, I have been listening to you for about 2 years now. This is my first time commenting on any of your videos. Because of you, Shaun, it's the only reason I even knew the US mint was releasing the 230th anniversary medal. I marked the release date on my phones calendar as a reminder. I was lucky enough to get one coin which showed up yesterday. Personally, I think it's a cool piece of US mint history. Thank you!

From a collector point. First of all its a Medal and not a coin!! Yes, i know the Mint has a history of making medals but their first responsibility is coins. I can understand buying this Medal if you can't purchase a Flowing Hair coin. I don't know why anyone would complain about mint prices when you have flippers and dealer prices! If it wasn't for flippers and dealers looking to make a buck it would be much better for collectors. Oh, yes i understand the free maket but also everyone is free to pay the price if they want to. The dealers getting first dibs on a Mint made rarity i believe doesn't sets well with a collector. Shaun you talk about keeping the future of coin collecting alive for new generations of collectors. I am glad you and many KZitemrs do that. The fact is though when a Mint item is made to be a rarity it leaves a lot of collectors out of the enjoyment of the hobby. When something is made to be rare by low production numbers to the volume of collectors is it truly rare? My opinion it's made rare just for $$$$. I don't think the Mint should in any way limit or made known to the public the total mintages until a year later. Let the Mints product popularity dictate the quantities. The West Point quarters into circulation is how it should be done. Yes there is flaws in that to. If you live in the middle of the country you don't even see any current year production coins until about the end of the year. I currently have not seen a single 2024 dated coin in circulation and its October. Any how if collecting coins isn't made easier for new young collectors the hobby will not survive.

Blue Ridge, I remember filling out U.S. Mint surveys a few times. Many people opted for a return of Morgan and Peace dollars, and they produced them. Another survey asked what your favorite classic coin was. Options included Flowing Hair, Cap Bust among others. I hope this is a beginning of the old coins being reproduced as silver medals or hopefully coins. The surveys ask about pricing, packaging, and mintage. That probably is why the clamshells came back. If you get a survey, fill it out.

My opinion is the foll.: the silver medal $ should be about $75 & Gold coin about $3750 my reasons why is the silver rounds costs around $25/oz & Gold $2500/oz. They probably cost about that & not $30 or $2700 like the prices are now. Surely they've had the rounds awhile. I know they didn't just buy them 2 weeks ago and start producing them lol. 🤷

Not many remember when the Franklin Mint was charging $35 for BEAUTIFUL Sterling Silver 1 OZ. MEDALS when silver was $15-$25 an oz. People finally started a class action law suit in Federal court for PRICE GOUGHING. Only reason it never went to fruition was back in 1979- 1980 the Hunt brothers decided to buy up all the silver they could trying to drive it to $100 an oz. and all those HIGH PRICED FM STERLING MEDALS were worth MORE than people paid for them!!! The Fed government stepped in CHANGED THE RULES MIDSTREAM about hoarding ANYTHING in the commodity markets, and shut them down and almost got away with locking the Hunt brothers up! I was a FM silver dealer back then and lucky I was able to liquidate all my silver at the times to many people that still wanted it and thought that silver would go back to at least $50 an oz. As we all know now it didn't happen! Now the U.S. Mint is GOUGHING the medals they make at UNGODLY PRICES. It is a SHAME that some rich lawyer, wanting to make a BIG SPLASH IN THE FINANCIAL NEWS taking the mint and government to court FOR THE PEOPLE over this travesty! Just POLITICS AS USUAL as when the government does something completely ILLEGAL ABSOLUTELY. NOTHING IS DONE ABOUT IT! These Liberty Dollar Medals should be no more than 50% over spot! BUT SAYING THIS NOW, we have silver now pushing $35 an oz. With GOLD OVER $2700 AN OZ. AND THE GOVERNMENT LOVING THE HUGE PROFIT THEY ARE MAKING on all these prices as they own these metals at a 80-90% DISCOUNT!! THINK ABOUT THAT!
@chrissahar2014
19 сағат бұрын
Please you are going to be upset because you sold these for 1,000 dollars? You made a great profit. That is what the price should be around for raw. 1,500 for a 70 but recall these are MEDALS and simply a silver round with a privy.
@chrissahar2014
19 сағат бұрын
And as a medal it has even less a chance of being used for commercial exchange than say an ASE $1 which has a nominative value. The people who bought this medal for anything about 1,500 have been ripped off by the frenzy of fer of losing out and, yes, greed.

So it’s curious that there seem to be plenty of MS70 Privy marked pieces on the secondary market. Is that really the case? If the secondary market got 10% of the total release the perception is that they got a high percentage of Privy marked pieces. I have yet to hear of a civilian getting one direct from the public sales. I look forward to learning more over time.

People like privys. Other country mints do it all the time. Maybe the US mint should do it more often. It sure stirred up a lot of interest. If the price was too high, they wouldn't have sold out. Sure, I'd like them to be cheaper. But the Mint should sell them for what they can get. I don't think people should be allowed to return them (they'll say other reasons but it would be because they didn't get a privy). I haven't received mine yet.
