Yeah, but you forgot one thing - They actually work, and work hard. They get subsidies because a SINGLE TRACTOR COSTS OVER 100,000 BUCKS. You got half a million clams to buy a harvester? How about 40,000 bucks for the trailer to move the grain? Well, they don't either, but people need to eat - so the government helps pay for that stuff so we all have food.

My father and my grandpa used to be farmers so I've heard quite a few things about the reality of farming that city folks normally underestimate. In reality, the farmers (with no high-tech equipment) must works REALLY hard regardless the weather and the amounts of labor work are huge with little reward. My father, when he was 10, had to wake up at 4:30 to help my grandpa then do all the works he could physically do at that age (house chores, planting rice,...). It seems like the ones who "get sick of doing office works" romanized farming work too much and think it as easy as gardening.

As someone who lived on a farm for almost a decade, *please* don’t go all in at once but instead start out small to see if it’s something you can actually see yourself doing. Because having a farm is kind of like having a kid, it doesn’t matter if you’re tired, sick, feeling down or just got home from work. You gotta get out there and take care of the animals and/or the plants because otherwise they will freaking die.

I prefer to 'have a life' rather than work eighty hour weeks for years on end. Each to their own. Definitely not for me. I'm currently working in a factory, four days on, four off. Suits quite well. Book four days holiday you get twelve days off work. Doesn't happen in agriculture.
