2013 Golf owner myself. I love that in general VW's are very elegant in their simplicity. No crazy weird body lines, just refinment.

I had a 2011 Golf with the 2.5 manual. I got 230,000 miles with oil changes, brakes, wheel hub, and AC belt that's it. It was insanely fun to drive, very smooth, stock exhaust and intake made the engine extremely quiet, I did a lot of highway driving and got 34 mpg. Mechanically and driving experience it never showed it's age but I too was plagued by the headliner sag and premature clear coat disintegrating causing some rust spots.

I've had my 06 Rabbit since 2014, got it at 88,000 miles. It's sitting pretty at 218,000 right now. I've beaten it to hell, it's taken on a 300lbs buck deer and I've got the skull and photos to prove it lol rebuilt it myself. It's my first VW and I'm riding it til the wheels fall off, or this 2.5 finally quits.

Thats awesome, and that 2.5 will last well past 400k if you take care of it. I’ve got a buddy with an 08 rabbit that has 490k on it and it still drives

dude you are absolutely correct… My little brother had an 07 rabbit with an exhaust and i believe the ecu was tuned already when it was bought, and holy cow that little thing was QUICK. It wasn’t a manual, however the tiptronic 6 speed felt like a manual and the throttle response in every single gear was just absolutely amazing. This mini v10 sounds so good and despite him not taking care of it and eventually destroying the transmission, it was replaced and drove like brand new with a new one in there. 8.9 out of 10, one of the best cars to ever exist. Nice video btw

I have a rabbit and a gti I cannot understand why anyone would want a gti over a rabbit, just as fast it’s so embarrassing tryna pull off in a gti with a turbo when the rabbit is just as fast 😂

I agree mk5 Rabbits are fucking great. Have you considered getting a tune? I have a 93 octane tune from United Motorsport and it's awesome. The experience of steadiliy pulling all the way to redline with the sound of the 5 banger is quite an experience, never gets old.

Got my ‘07 Rabbit in 2019 for $3000, 170k km (just over 100k mi). Only real problems I’ve had are rust on the fenders and the exhaust and that good ol floppy headliner. I think the engine sounds great, feels great, 5 speed shifts nice (could be a little shorter). I’ve got an RCD330 in mine to get Android Auto/CarPlay/Bluetooth while keeping it looking stock VW. Picked up some cheap used Audi rims for it since the ones it came with were super curbed. New tires and new brakes a little while ago, and a new battery and spark plugs last year, and it runs smoother than ever. Love this thing.

I watched this video over a year ago when I bought my rabbit. Granted I ended up with a pivot arm issue in the clutch and that was expensive. Besides that and normal maintenance (coolant flush, spark plugs, oil changes) I’ve spent about 10 dollars on it to replace the pcv valve. Planning on replacing the shocks next year. Maybe stage 1 tune and exhaust for some snap crackle pop.

I've got a MK5 Rabbit - 4dr, 5spd, bought from the dealer (it was trade in) in 2018 for $5.7k @ 68k miles..... it now has 115k and has been literally the most reliable car I've ever owned. It has never broke down/left me stranded etc. The only issue now is it has a little rust but I'm going to fix it. Mine is just grey and 100% stock so it is very boring. Might lower it a little bit and have find some improved wheels (have 16" 2011 Jetta wheels now). Thanks for the video and also helps me see what little mods you have and how you enjoy it too.

@Holmie_Bytes

Good to know I can do that with spacers, I really like the OEM+ look with using nicer factory wheels like that. I currently am setup on winter wheels/tires, doesn't look amazing but it handles snow like a little tank! Enjoy the A8 wheels! Sounds nice@@lickwidgoat3480

Had mine since October last year. Only problem I’ve had was the motor for the recirc in the hvac stripped out. Apparently it had some problems that were fixed before I got it but I don’t know what those were. Seemed like the previous owners were afraid of maintenance. Dirty low oil, factory spark plugs with 140k miles on them. The plug gap was about 1/4 inch. Yikes 😬

Got my 08 rabbit with 62k miles and now sitting with 200k. Did preventative maintenance on it, only got towed once because of the ignition/steering wheel lock broke at around 170k but other than that very reliable!! I even kept it around along with my 16 vw cc 2.0t

Early 2.5 ate their timing chains due mostly to oil starvation from a ridiculous oil change interval that sounded great for marketing. Unfortunately in reality your oil needed to be changed in a reasonable interval of 3500-5k miles, not 7500 and certainly not 10k! No engine created unless it’s a certain Japanese variety can surpass a person ignorance and their neglect of proper maintenance.

I have a 07 rabbit 2.5 5 speed , I honestly bought it because I was a winter beater but that was 2 years ago . After driving it for 1 winter I’m totally hooked , I have a newer 1500 that sits , every one lol when they see me get out of it but who cares I just like the dumb pos drives . The 5 cylinder is mint paired with a stick it’s so fun. I will buy a nicer cleaner one next

Jetta< 178,000 miles , runs the same, as when i got it at 92,000 had only 3 probs the whole time, rear hub, 1 coil, 1 plug, thats it. Average 30 mpg in manual. Oh ya and the stupid key is still fuggerd, but still worksish.

@@initialyeet3951 vw makes it fun by using the same clock spring. You could even use an audi steering wheel. Most clock springs can be swapped to different VAG vehicles. I’m going to attempt to install a 2012 beatle wheel on my rabbit. Difference was mine had an only revision clockspring unlike the springs that VAG cars have been using for like more than a decade now

I somehow managed to tolerate almost this entire diatribe which should have taken only about five minutes to convey the useful info. But then who would the Shoffty have to complain, brag and make excuses to, which he does repeatedly? Thankfully, before watching this rant I have been enjoying my '09 5-cyl, 5-speed Rabbit for 7 years, else I would have thought hard about making a different choice. So Mr. Video Man, learn to tighten things up for the benefit of your viewers.
