@@kroxx2 He had tears streaming down his face, I doubt that Mark Coleman is some highly skilled actor. Also if he has any brain damage from fighting or alcohol, he may not handle emotions as well and from an age standpoint, as people get older, they tend to get a little more emotional too. He loved his dog, and also there is going to be some guilt feelings, and remembering the fear of his parents dying or himself... I think he tried very hard to be less dramatic about it.

When I see Mark Coleman I feel great because he's a true example of resilience, a man who used to be addicted and now a sober real life hero. His history is inspiring, and the love he still has for the sport very evident, so I got almost emotional when I heard he was invited to be part of ufc 300, specially considering all the hell he's been thorough, the loss of his lovely partner Hammer and everything. Like Mark has recognized he wasnt a great person back then, but he's changed, he's good now and it tells. Long live and love for a pioneer, a trailblazer in mma, but most importantly a solid example of true internal strength, of overcoming addictions for his family and future. It's never too late.

I just rewatched the Williams fight, it seemed fine for the times, Williams held the cage for a few seconds during the takedown but got taken down anyway, mark grabbed the fence multiple times just as much as Williams, big John actually picked mark up off the canvas after the first round, the stand up was probably unwarranted but didn’t effect the fight to much, mark actually landed his hardest punches after the stand up

Re-watching Mark Coleman vs Pete Williams (UFC 17 - Redemption) 15.05.1998. 29 seconds into the fight Pete grabs top of cage delaying Marks eventual takedown (Let go of the top, let go of the top!, Big John instructed). At 5:35 seconds Big John for some unknown reason stands the fighters up, Mark on top with effective ground & pound, Pete attacking and defending from the bottom, there was plenty of ground action, Mark was Khabib, before Khabib. No need to stand up the fighters by today's educated fans standards, but back then, the ground game was considered boring by most fans (John is aware of this). Big John at the 7:45 mark, John exclaims, Come-on, let's work!, the guys were stand up fighting, working, just not to John's standard. Someone obviously told John to keep the fights entertaining I assume this to be consisting of kicks, slams and punches in bunches. At the 8:54 mark, with Pete's back against the cage, Mark fingers/grips the cage, not prevent Pete's escape, but more like Mark was resting and/or needed somewhere safe to place his hand. At 8:59 John tells Mark to get your hands off the fence! Pete wasn't trying to move away, so Mark's fence holding didn't really affect the fight, his fingers in the fence was obvious and had to be addressed. Mark was warned a couple more time to let go of the fence while trying to keep Pete against the fence. At 10:09 Mark attempts a take down but Pete grabs the fence with two hands preventing the take down, Big John says nothing, the announcer says, good technique by Pete! At 10:16 the same thing happens, Pete hangs on to the fence with Mark expending energy finally takes Pete down and begins catch his breath to begin ground & pound. They are told to work, come on guys lets get it going at 11:16. End of regulation time, John helps Mark up off of Pete and asks Mark if he is OK and tells him that he has 3 mins left. And finally at 19:38 in the fight, Pete kicked Mark in the face, knocking him out! Had this Ref, Big John, stand up not occurred, Mark may have stopped Pete, no way of really knowing, but I do know that John's decisions adversely affected the outcome of the fight for Mark. Mark has a legitimate, water under the bridge, gripe.
