As the 20th century drew to a close, America was grappling with many different issues at home and abroad. The Cold War lingered on with the Soviet Union, and the 1970’s saw many new political activist groups push for change in regards to several things, including the state of the environment. The 1980’s would see advances in technology around the globe, and as the United States prepared to enter the 21st century, the national parks would be subject to a climate that was increasingly becoming polluted through various means. Throughout it all, 6 U.S. presidents oversaw these issues front and center, and it was up to them to decide how the national parks would survive for future generations to enjoy. These presidents were Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, and Bill Clinton, who as of this video’s release is the most recent president to have a National Park Service unit associated with them. Without further ado, for the final time, welcome back to RAC’s Presidential Parks Series, where we discuss U.S. Presidents, through the national parks that honor and define them.
