Used a set of calipers to measure overall length, installed new tie rod set to original measurement then drove that truck another 180,000 miles without any new steering parts and no alignment ever! I take that back, I did replace the idler arm about a year later. Ball joints and rest all remained tight as I kept them greased.

Okay, so as I don't drive a BMW, nor know a lot sbout them, but I've worked on almost every other car or had my hands in repairing them. When it falls off, at the top you see two rubber bushings, and the link come down in a typical stabilizer link "S" shape, and come down to a ball joint connection. It’s just a little sway bar end link, you could drive that car for years with just that broken. Now if you truly want to video something going catastrophically wrong try and get video of a hub bearing/spindle coming apart on a big truck, especially one with spoke (Dayton) hubs. I’ve seen it happen from once from failed bearings and twice from not getting the jam nut and locking key or collar set right. The scariest one I’ve ever seen I Was Running behind a roll off dumpster truck on the interstate in my dump truck down a 6% grade at 60 mph. That truck had Daytons on it and when the right rear drive came off it was 2 11r24.5 tires, the 6 spoke 22” hub AND the brake drum all still bolted together. That’s about 400 pounds rolling free at 60 mph. Luckily he was unloaded and the duals that came off hit a guardrail, bent it like it was made of paper then bounced up and over the side into a bunch of woods, no houses or nothing. That Guy, Myself, and anyone on the opposite side of the median got very lucky.

It’s actually not the sway bar link. The sway bar link is right behind it and is uruslly connected to the shock absorber. Looks like the Xenon adjustment sensor to me, you can see the plastic arm in the end so it must be a sensor

It’s literally just a sway bar. That’s not a big deal I took the rear one completely off my roadster to actually loosen the suspension around corners.
@SpcNATlON

What your saying would actually have the opposite effect. It would allow the weight to transfer more loading up the outside rear tire more. A stiffer rear sway bar would not allow as much weight transfer resulting in less weight being put on the outside rear tire meaning it would be easier to break traction or a "loose" condition. To much weight transfer may break traction but will likely be unpredictable and harder to control. In SCCA SRF3 racing we disconnect the sway bars in the rain for this reason. To allow the car to lean on the tires more and have better traction in wet conditions where it's necessary. In the dry the car would feel significantly less responsive and unpredictable.

You definitely want sway bar links attached in cars, less sway when going around corners. But also safety reason for when you need to turn the wheel at a fast speed to avoid a car collision ..The only time they should be disconnected is when going off roading

@@SpcNATlON if you have a stiff rear sway bar in a car like mine it will try to Bri bring the inside tire off the ground so having a loose sway will allow all tires to be on the ground all the time which is what you want for a car like mine.

@@joshuaallender2986 look up engineering explained my friend and find one of his videos on sway bars or suspension in general. He is super informative and easy to understand. If your looking for better conering removing the sway bar entirely the exact opposite of what you want. Like a different comment said unless your off roading a miata detaching the sway bar will only decrease grip. The out side tire is what does all the turning. The inside tires offer little grip in the corner. SFR3's are essentially a racecar miata with rear engine. Yes we would run a significantly stiffer sway bar proportionally to the front because of the weight from the engine in the rear. Look up a picture of a F1 car mid corner, the outside tire will be smashed into the ground while the inside tire will be almost off the ground. Miata's are an incredibly well balanced and neutral handling car from the factory, very gripy and incredibly easy to correct.. There's a reason it's the most raced car in history. I'm not trying to be an ass, just trying to educate. If your autocrossing your losing time out there. Having a softer rear sway bar may be beneficial if you think the car is loose, but in your case I would chalk that up to tires. If the rear feels tight like you can't get the car to rotate, then you'd stiffen in up. My wife and I are in the process of building a 400hp miata and getting grip in that car will be a challenge.
