I got citizenship in reverse. Was born to a Brit Mom in the US when only Fathers conferred that sort of citizenship. Finally, the UK corrected that in rolling fashion. I became a British citizen in 2013 right before I was scheduled to move to the UK. Glad I got out before Trump. (That said, I love my fellow US citizens and country and I find people not recognising that he's a fascist to be so disturbing and dispiriting.)

I agree with you!! Trump is a total fascist. I am glad for you that you got out before Trump was elected in 2016. If I had dual citizenship (US & UK, for instance) I would absolutely be living in the UK until we can purge the US of Trump. His many trials will go forward when he loses the election. Also, he is sliding quickly into dementia which means he is more unfit than ever to do the job. I actually think Kamala is going to win. She will be a great president. Quite a few well known Republicans have gone public that they are voting for Kamala.Such a big tent of people who are pro-democracy have come together. Country over party. I am grateful!!

Some of these comments were out of date, so just to set the record straight, the armed militia in NC really boiled down to a couple of people making threats online. When they actually arrived at the site and saw the situation, they realized they were misinformed and came back and pitched in help, but it was very scary for a while there. Also, we now know that those ridiculous vote counting laws in GA have been blocked by a judge and things are looking much better there. Watch Marc Elias/Democracy Docket for updates on these situations. I'm on the ground canvassing in both NC and SC and am very encouraged by how engaged people are and how well they understand the assignment, and that goes for every single person I've spoken with -- young white guys, Latina moms, older black people, etc.

You probably need to take a Civics class because the Electoral College is built into our Constitution. It was designed to stop large states -- like New York at the time -- from dominating all the other states. My mom was still a French citizen to the day she died, which is weird because when she was in France her French was kind of outdated, and she missed the United States. Yet when she was here in the US, even after 70 years, her English was still accented and ever so slightly peculiar. And her favorite insult was to call something American. But she was pretty funny. She told me once that the reason she put 'Catholic' down on her end of life paperwork (even though she hadn't practiced it since she was 10 years old) was because if you're born catholic, that's it, there's no getting out.

Accents are quite difficult to lose. I'm from Washington State, retired in France since '92, and my accent when speaking their language is the delight of my French friends.
