RIP Davy Jones, Peter Tork and Mike Nesmith. I emailed Mickey Dolenz in December and told him that I really enjoyed getting to see him and Mike Nesmith at the Texas Trust CU theater in October.

I met Richard Kiel at a Star Trek convention about 5 years ago. He was a very nice and very humble with a quiet voice. He mentioned all of the work he's done and I told him my kids saw him in this Monkees episode. His eyes lit up and, I truly believe, that he'd for got all about playing the monster. He's a very cool guy.

I've seen The Monkees in concert three times, own their box set and stood in line for hours to get their autographs on it and THIS song is my favorite Monkees tune of ALL TIME. Thanks for posting this!

Yeah now I know-I remember watching this episode where Your Auntie Grizelda played in the background. This is the first time I heard Good Clean Fun substituted for Grizelda. Still a classic!

Wow... I was ready to swear that the monster was played by Ted Cassidy, who played Lurch on the Adams Family TV show. I guess I forgot how much they looked alike when in character.

This is from the Saturday Afternoon version. In fact, Episode #4725, “I Was A Teenage Monster”, happened to be the very first episode to be shown in The Monkees' Saturday Afternoon run, which premiered @ noon (EDT), September 13, 1969, on CBS. 8^B

@carllafong69 - Ah - I've worked it OUT! I just re-watched the piece and it occurred that the Monkees don't actually SING in it. Thus they must have SWITCHED the number. All they had to do was edit it for TIME. Maybe that's why it contains those stock shots of "d"-movie monsters - i.e., "Good Clean Fun" was SHORTER than the song originally used.

Peter already left the group by the time "Good Clean Fun" was recorded. So they replaced "Auntie Grizelda," a Peter sung song, with a song sung by Mike. Were they mad at Peter for leaving?
@pbsfundingaddict790

No. They weren’t mad at Peter. The reason this song replaced “Your Auntie Grizelda” during Saturday mornings is because “The Monkees Present”, the album that this song is from, was released at the time and they wanted to promote the album

@@allyouneedislunch6738 it was a cbs rerun in america during cbs and also aired in the uk in the late 70s and early 80s. The quality of the print looks like it may be from an early 90s recording
