Hey Mark, I have recently bought a 1967 M20E Super 21 here in Germany. What a coincidence that your private plane is almost identical.Your videos are really helpful. Keep up the good work. Cheers, Andy

EXPENSIVE, I have been an airline captain ( 737 and 320 ) half of my life. Now in my early 60ies I am finally able to afford buying an old aircraft. My estimate is around 250 to 300 $ per hour, including fuel, insurance, hangar and maintenance. This is only valid if you fly at least 50h/ year. If you would like some pics of my Mooney, please give me an email adress. Cheers, Andy

I have N5502Q, so with numbers that close, I suspect that N5604Q was built the same year, 1965. Like the one pictured, I have upgraded to an LED landing light and have the cowl bowl enclosure. Stock M20Es have a bigger opening under the nose, but I felt that the larger opening could douse the generator or alternator with pounding rain. I have an alternator conversion, but the generator wasn't bad. I have the 201 windshield. I had it done so that now avionics access is inside the plane, under a padded cover, not outside. I think the easiest way to tell which body you're looking at is the length of the rear window. That's where the additional length shows up, in rear passenger leg room. Mine is red, but has the same 90's paint scheme/pattern at this one, still going strong with lots of maintenance.

Yes, rear windows are a great ID on these planes. Is your rectangular or "humpbacked" if it is the latter, it is a 1964.

M20E / C have full length rudders from 1969 and on. The 1977 - 1980 also had squared off wing tips. I believe wingtip fairings were introduced in 1981.

You are absolutely right. 69 and newer have the log 201 rudder. All my Mooneys have been 65 and 66. Supposedly less wag in turbulence. Thank you.
