Awesome plan. As far as colors, I have no opinion for the entire vehicle but I’ve been a collision repair technician for 30 years and I specialize in fire trucks and ambulances. I love all the reflective decals used on these units. They just light up at night when lights are shined on them. When you see that coming you realized that serious help is on the way. And can be seen from a distance so people know they can head towards you for help

Might I suggest: -A bright color wrap, or at least a bright color top. Reason is if you need to air lift a patient, bright colors are easier to see when directing in a helicopter. As a Marine Crew Chief, it can be hard to find natural color items among the natural colors of nature. That's the point of camouflage, tan, and green colors. In your application, you are not hiding from an enemy, you need to be seen. -Might want to look into air suspension as it can be lowered to fit in your garage and gain height on trails.

@@TrailRecon Extra weight will make it easier to fit in the garage. ;) My 83 FSJ build had the garage requirement. Stopped at 37" tires and had a buddy build a custom roof rack. The spare had to go in the cab too. One 'cheat code' is if you are not going to garage it all of the time, with the plan to just pull it in to work on it, you can let air out of the tires to clear the door. My storage space is about an inch shorter than my garage so that's what I do. I toss a piece of 1/8" board on the roof rack to insure clearance. If the boards start to move when I pull in, I let more air out. You could also use ratchet straps around the axle and frame to pull it a bit lower. Although that idea makes me nervous. Take care!

Brad- Navy doc here (anesthesiologist), did some time with 2MARDIV back in the day. As I’m sure you know, the amount of gear depends what sort of patients you want to be equipped to handle and for how long. One thought that I had for you is that keeping trauma patients warm is key; some way of keeping the back of the truck heated, or a Bair hugger like system for the patient.

I have rode in the box of a truck with a cap and it was severely dusty on gravel roads. When thinking of hauling patients I would suggest testing out the thought of fully enclosing the area and having an air scoop of some sorts to pressurize the area to help keep it to be tolerable on dirt and gravel roads

One of the most painful experiences of my life was riding in the back of a jeep without a backseat in my teens in the 80s at night though some rougher terrain when being helped by some guys. Stock axles trussed, with CrMo shafts. Heavier duty suspension with 35" tires on minimal lift. Bigger or 2nd fuel tank underneath, with skid plates. Gut the rear of the cabin--custom water tank on one side of the floor and batteries on the other. Build a flat, noise insulated box over the top of both, and either add e-track or build storage. For the hard-capped bed, driver's side reserved for a stretcher/patient. Center with a storage slide out that functions as a bench for the medic. Passenger side is for floor-to-ceiling storage of medical equipment and supplies--drawers low down and cabinets up top, accessed though exterior doors in the cap. Pass-throughs from the cab for hot/cold water plumbing and electrical needs. A big 270° awning is probably the easiest, but what would be very cool is a roof-mounted medical tent that folds upward and out over the passenger side and is the full length of the cab and bed. Either option could have zip-on walls to create a weather resistant room.

3 Recommendations: 1.Dark grey with Military green accents. 2.Durable military style wheels. 3. Make a hard shell type addition for the trunk that almost works like an ambulance where you can transport at least one patient in the back for emergency while at the same time being able to store important medical equipment. I have seen those kind of hard shell additions from Project M with campers on top but maybe there are some other company brands that you guys are aware of.

Maybe consider joining a local search and rescue group? Needing a trail aid station though, unless folks are doing something really dumb and outside their 4 wheeling capabilities not sure I understand why. Your background as a Navy corpsman I think you could use your skills and training supporting local charities or maybe medical assistance for homeless, that would be more fulfilling using your years of training and experience where there are most certain needs. Told my hubs, this is money looking for a reason to be spent.

The 911 system does work an a trained response is sent to medical aid an accidents off-road . IAM very happy you are moving in this direction ,i believe your greatest value would be to teach advanced first aid an stabilization of a patients before the EMS ARRIVES. I would take a look at the Harker Outdoors EDC topper. I think it would be perfect for this project. It would allow you to stand in the back of the truck while treating the patients. And the canvas comes out and covers the tailgate while down, which would give you room for the stretcher. And you could travel out of the back country with the topper deployed.

Another option is the moon lander topper, with that the patient could be sideways in the back. I think the canvas of the harker outdoor would be way cooler but if you wanted something different.

You should put a white Super Pacific Camper on there. It would be perfect for all the wiring and everything and give you a place to sleep.

Master Blaster - from another Devil Doc…. Thank you for honoring our beloved Hospital Corps! Oh Sarge Green would be awesome! My Rubicon Wrangler is Sarge Green specifically because of my Navy and MarineCorps time.
