I am new to this process, so forgive me, but why is the $5000 cash also not added into the budget?

Ahhh we can see the confusion! Match is provided by in-kind donated time or materials OR cash. Cash can be from the applicant, a partner, or things like unspent grant funds from elsewhere. So, when you build out your budget and figure out how to provide match, it is typically in-kind contributions or cash. That cash can pay for anything in the budget. In this example, it was paying for the equipment cost. Does that make sense? Our new book goes into a TON of detail on match as well and budget development. @@LearnGrantWriting The cash match was for equipment which was already listed on the left. The in-kind was personnel, which was not included in the left so it needed to be added. My question is backward from your point that anything included in match must be in the budget. If the item is in the budget does it have to have a match when there is a match requirement? Meaning, do you have to apply the match evenly across all budget categories or is it acceptable for the total match to equal the required % match but not be applied evenly across all budget categories? For example, lets say there is a 25% match requirement. you have $5,000 in equipment, $5,000 in construction, $20,000 in personnel. If I applied 25% match evenly, I would have a match of $1,250 for equipment, $11,250 for construction, and $5,000 for personnel equaling $17,500. Or would you be able to do $1,500 for equipment, $0 for construction, and $16,000 for Personnel equaling $17,500.
