Hold these in tension. Hell and a God who IS love. Yes we choose. The thing that bothers me is if it’s for eternity. With Mary I believe that we can have second chances. God’s mercy and love will prevail. The Catholic Church after Vatican II,teaches that all people who believe (all Christians) will be saved. As for other religions are they not “a law unto themselves?” I believe that no one goes to Hell by accident. No Premarital sex may be hard to do but it’s not THAT difficult. My husband and I avoided it, and we were engaged for 1 1/2 years. Also I have seen what divorce does to the children. I have also seen what happens when there is an abusive marriage. That also is toxic for the children. Contraception? I’m 80. But the pill has some medical uses also (like HRT). What about capital punishment? The Church teaches that life is precious from conception to natural death. Women were not priests ever but there were deacons in the early church. There actually was no priesthood in the church at the beginning. There were deacons and bishops. You need a woman on your show. Otherwise I think your show is unbalanced. Capital punishment is wrong (I repeat because this is a teaching of the Church that so many ignore - apparently you also).

I think sometimes the idea of God's mercy is misunderstood. It sounds like we're saying that God will just let anybody into Heaven even if they hate Him. I think that the way the Lord converted me is an example of how He shows mercy even to the dying, even at whatever moment in God's eyes is the "last moment." In my experience of God's mercy, I was converted by a dream. In a fraction of a second, I understood that Jesus is real, that He's alive, that He has all the power and all the love, and that He had come for me in this remarkable way. I fell head over heels in love with Him. I gave my life to Him, saying, "Lord, I'm yours Body and soul, do whatever You want with me." He led me to the Catholic Church, and I've been a happy, grateful Catholic now for over 30 years. I think that what He did for me is something like what I imagine He does for others at the moment of death -- whenever that is, in His eyes. I think He reveals Himself to each individual in a personal way, and they have a "last chance" to accept Him as their Savior. It's pretty much an instantaneous experience. There's still the possibility of refusal, although honestly, it's nearly impossible to refuse when in that moment you know absolutely for certain who Jesus is. That's just my opinion, but I think, from my own experience, it's plausible. There are stories from the Saints and mystics that support this idea. Jesus loves each of us that much. And if He could forgive me, He can forgive anybody.

Saying, "What's the point if everyone gets in anyway" is the argument of the older brother of the Prodigal Son. It's never "nothing" or a waste of time to be blessed to be able to participate in building God's Kingdom. If God's mercy let's others in at the last moment, awesome. They didn't get in easy! They missed out on knowing God better during this life. We are so backward and blind sometimes...

You made an excellent point. We often forget the reaction of the elder brother, and fail to realize we're sometimes exactly like him. We all need God's mercy to get into Heaven. You expressed that very well in your comment. Thanks!

I like very much the image of the desert. "I will lead her into the desert and speak to her heart." (Hosea 2:14) The desert can be a romantic place of encounter and intimacy, but it can also be dry, and at times, painful. The desert is where God chisels away everything that is superfluous, to paraphrase Michelangelo. As the Israelites were tested and trained to walk by faith in the desert, living on manna, that supernatural, heavenly food, we are traversing the wilderness of this world, nourished by Eucharist, the supernatural, heavenly food of the new creation, as we journey towards the real Promised Land, our Heavenly home. If we get discouraged when we feel like we're in a desert, I think it's helpful to ponder this.

@@MarilynBoussaid-yd1vk Sounds great but unfortunately it flatters to deceive. You said : *nourished by Eucharist, the supernatural, heavenly food of the new creation* and I just have to disillusion you. Manna was different as the bible clearly shows.

The very, very few exceptions to those who do not know about the Catholic Church are few. How can we, as Christians, skim that for earthly feelings. People's souls are at risk. I'm not God. I don't make exceptions. I follow his word. I get it we wish to be kind but through love and courage idk if it's safe to let people think it's not necessary. Notice the except for the last 100 years. 12:22 the way I see it and have heard from some priests or others, if you know the Catholic church is the true church of Jesus, deep in your heart you KNOW but turn away and choose not to go, you're in trouble.... but if you're ignorant or born into some tribe in Asian or Africa and have no clue who Jesus is, you will still be in trouble for mortal sins you commit because deep down we know what's right and wrong, we just have a darkened conscience. But with our prayers and the mercy of God, maybe he does visit people like this in a dream or maybe he visits them on their death bed. But I don't know and I think that only applies to people who had no idea who he is or were straight up not sure. But those who do know... or are warned many times and keep rejecting it... they've made it clear what choice they made.... we should still pray for everyone though, even those ancestors or people we know that have died already.

What if, stay with me here, that if, when you die and judgement is passed, that you enter heaven (or begin purgatory on your way there) because you’ve accepted and believed everything that is Catholic? Granted it seems easier to do this just by entering the Church while you’re alive. It does seem like most who won’t enter the Church now, want to choose some of what Jesus taught, but not all. And in the end, it’s all or nothing.

Thank you for bringing up the health risks of contraception for women. While mostly safe, like any prescription, it depends on the person, and other affects can be serious, And you still might get pregnant. 99% effective means out of 100 women on the pill for 3 years, 3 will get pregnant. Seriously gentlemen, if more men genuinely loved and respected women as you two obviously do, a whole world of problems would go away.

Regarding is anyone in hell. Didn't Our Lady show the 3 children at Fatima the souls in hell, which was traumatozing to them. They stepped up there prayers for souls due to this. Thus if they saw the souls being tormented in hell, thus, there are people in hell, right?

Salvation is more than just eternal salvation, salvation is the healing of humanity, individually and collectively, body and soul, through all ages, and that cannot be done without the Church. Maybe having an overly definition of salvation is part of the problem. We need a broader definition of salvation, including but not limited to eternal salvation, helps, but so does a broader definition of Church. The Church itself says there is the Church militant (us here), Church suffering (in purgatory) and Church triumphant (in heaven). If you attain salvation in even the narrow sense of eternal salvation, you have to be a part of at least two of them, right? You lead a super holy Catholic life, and skip purgatory, you were part of the Church militant and Church triumphant. Hopefully most of the rest of all Catholics are part of all three. But the guy who seeks God earnestly but never hears the gospel, or hears a version of the gospel that is so distorted that they might not be accountable for rejection of Christ because they don’t know He has been misrepresented, that guy probably hits purgatory, wouldn’t you imagine? That guy probably has a few bad habits and ideas because he never had a proper picture of Christ or access to the Sacraments, so there’s probably work to do on that soul. So if you have to be part of at least two wings of the Church pretty much no matter what, why are we worried?

Why would the worst sinner be most deserving of mercy. I'm thinking, so much sin that I avoid is already by the grace of God. Or because I was blessed to be raised with an understanding of God and that we do have relationship with God. So many have no clue about God or love or kindness or selflessness. When God finally reveals himself to this person, He really has to give it them a shot.

The amount of mercy God shows everyone is the same. What the worst sinners will or should realize is to God it is okay his mercy is enough to bridge that gap and for them not to feel too ashamed to ask for forgiveness.

Salvation outside of the Church, think about the truths that our Christian brothers and sisters contain within their “religions”. All of those truths stem from the truth given to them by the one true church. I compare it to a tree- Jewish roots to a Catholic tree and all the truths that are contained in other religions are apples off of that tree but I don’t want to pick and choose apples, I want the whole tree.

The guy with the baseball cap is so legalistic. I like that Fr. Rich disagrees with him on certain topics in some episodes. It shows the legalistic mindset and rigidity. I agree with many things he says, not all and I appreciate that the other 2 hosts also disagree at times. All in all, a great show.

My question I guess from listening this , women can’t be priest because why ? Back when Jesus was alive women were less then and he literally couldn’t make them priests with out certain death I would assume to them . But I guess what makes me think of this is , every mass my church says a prayer for more men tk become priest . Will there be a point in time where if there are not enough men priest would the church allow women priest ?🤔

We can’t imagine a God who would condemn some Peruvian potato farmer from the 12th century to hell because he didn’t know about Jesus, but we can imagine a God that knows the instant He creates a person that that person will end up in hell because he is going to live his life as a devout Jew? That’s what I have a hard time wrapping my head around.

Presumption is an easy sin to commit when a bishop provides the "it is good to hope that hell will be empty" sound bite. This can be seen as a pastoral failure. Most of us don't remember the technical context of that interview, but we do remember what feels good (or bad).

I had forgotten why I chose to originally unsubscribe to this channel. As a Catholic woman, I actually had to unsubscribe for a second time. Beyond the heavy "bro" tendencies within talks (which I can tolerate), I dislike when people pass off personal opinion as fact. Gender wage gap doesn't exist because of observation and business common sense? Sorry, data from various legitimate sources, combined with research...would indicate that, yes, there is an overall gap and disparity when looking at those two factors: gender and annual income, wages earned, etc. They are correlations, which doesn't imply causation. Continuing to use unconscious and conscious biases like: "in the business world, corporations would hire only women to save 12%" to justify beliefs, just perpetuates issues. It also turns people off to want to join or rejoin our Catholic faith when the subject matter experts pass of inaccurate information for things that aren't directly related to faith matters.

My daughter came yesterday from school and asked about videos advertising the next of times, the 7 years and 7 seals, the eclipse and warnings of not leaving home that day, prophecies… I tend to think that God will provide, and we just have to continue to live in the best imitation of Jesus we can portray, but young people, kids that are in their way to college, she thinks, if the world is going to end, why would I go to school, why would I go to college? My faith has had time to mature with relation to my daughters faith which is still questioning and searching for meaning and truth, as parents, how do we face these times, the words on the Bible about tribulations…

What Pope Francis said was: "What I would say is not a dogma of faith, but my personal thought: I like to think hell is empty; I hope it is." Please don't misquote our Holy Father, or add anything to what he said. He didn't even say he thinks hell is empty, or that it would be reasonable to think so. He said "I like to think..." In the same way, I might say: "This is not what the experts say, but I like to think I can eat all the chocolates I want and not gain any weight."

I married at 16- years old forced by my mother. I didn’t have children until I was 20 but we had pre marital sex. I stayed married until my husband passed still no other spouse in my life. But I was not married into the church until we were married for 15-years. Often I felt we were sinners in the eyes of the church and God until we were married in the church we stayed married 42-years.
