The base LaJoux Perret is also not fully original. It's based on a Valjoux and the chronograph removed. LJP puts their own bidirectional winding setup in the leftover space. The De-chronographed Valjoux is quite a popular base for other "in-house" movements. Habring2, Demasko, are two notables. The Valjoux 'tells' are the zig-zag jewel train, and the pair of uncentered screws on the ratchet wheel.

Soprod does this too for certain panerais, but in that instance Panerai is at least honest about it! But theres only so many ways to make gears and springs tell time, and theres no point in reinventing the wheel. The nomos alpha is based off (and by based i mean they ape the design since the patent expired) a pesaux 7001 for instance. The argument could be made they dont really charge in house money for it, even though they manufacture it.
@dimman77

@@goldendawn7 Yeah, the 7001 is another favourite of LJP. The 90h PR ultrathins available in Arnold and Son, Baume et Mercier, and Hublot are all 7001 bases with an extra barrel. I might have missed the point, but... on what basis DID Bremont make the "in-house" claim? In-house isn't a water tight test of quality, certainly, but for desirability, it shows a watch maker's commitment to the art and craft. There's a gentleman in my town that makes wooden pendulum clocks (hand-carved wooden gears, handmade granite weights, etc) and charges over 5,000 for each piece. The gears, on moderately close inspection, are very clearly hand carved with very inconsistent tooth profile and depth and I'm sure it's not exactly "chronometer" spec, but what it IS is a beautiful piece of art in it's own right. 5 grand is a bit much in my opinion, but I would love to buy one of his clocks because he made it all himself and I get to inspect and see the evidence of his hard work and passion in each little inaccuracy and flaw. :)

The Bremont detractors on here are hilarious. There is no “faux history” from them. They actually market themselves on their recent history and their engineering. Those who don’t know about the brand really shouldn’t comment. A price comparison is Tudor for the majority of Bremont’s range. This Flyer is a limited edition exclusive that doesn’t represent any of the majority of their sales. Tudor for instance will make and sell probably 10 times the number that Bremont make (around 8000 a year), will be using relatively rudimentary technology and piggybacking off the Rolex knowhow, will also, until very recently, he using ETA or Valjioix modified movements, and are worked and sold off the back of celebrity endorsements and the like that, in my opinion, cheapen them somewhat. I like Tudor, don’t get me wrong. But they are on a price parity with Bremont and economy of scale would say that Bremont themselves are actually good value, especially when you learn properly about the numbers, the technology that is in them (the Triptych case, the shock resistance, the extra hardened steel and sapphires, the over doing of the anti reflective coating and so on), they are very good value. On top of that, they have a modern but also traditional look rolled into a very distinctive look. Yet people still are hugely derogatory about them yet they, other than this faux pas, have done nothing different to any other manufacturer, with Tudor being a very good comparison. So, yes, I am a fan. Yes own one. And no I wasn’t suckered in by their present history and so on. I liked what I saw, did the research and it was a Bremont vs an Omega AT. It was a close call, I have to admit, but I liked putting my money into a home brand and Bremont won. Haven’t regretted it once. I adore it. Always will. And couldn’t give a monkeys about resale value. The value is it’s meaning to me, what it represents to me (a tribute to both my late father and late father in law) and the knowledge that I have something on my wrist that is easily an equal to anything similarly priced out there in terms of engineering at least. Carry on criticising.....it does show people to be opinionated, not knowledgeable. It’s very funny

The fragment inside the watch is also a rip-off of concept. In the case of Romain Jerome, it understood that since the brand was so new as to lack any patrimony, or heritage (a ridiculous point of pride in the horlogerie game) it would put 'history' inside its timepieces instead. I would be very curious about the origins of the textile, since RJ encountered controversy when attempting to explain the provenance of the moon rock contained in its limited edition collection - that it hadn't been stolen, or wasn't the genuine substance. The chain of custody would be interesting to verify, right down to each number in the collection. The idea is gimmicky to be sure - but even more so when the brand is Bremont and not RJ. Bremont is representative of everything wrong in the world of luxury timepieces - a gutsy enterprise producing gutless iterations, one after another.

The crown in and of itself is a particularly beautiful and well-thought-out creation. I particularly like its contours and complex curves. The hour and minute hands are thankfully of a proper length. Both are perfect in their reach. The appearance of the seconds dial and its hand are also similarly pleasing and well-thought-out.

I attended a jeweller/watch seller were this watch was on show. It is a nice watch, however I informed the sales assistant what had happened with the watch on debut, however she took umbrage and went away to get the stores owner. When he arrived I explained to him that I wasn't taking fault with it saying I'd rather have a watches "engine room" made by a recognised movement maker than what can only be described as an experiment timepiece which may or may not be a success! I also asked him how are the sales going? He admitted the sales girl was not really experienced with high end watches and after the story came out amongst watch aficionados sales fell off and where still slow. Asked did the public know how good LaJou.Perret movement are...he replied in the negative. I did make him an offer for it which he refused. Last time I went past the shop the watch is still on show.

santrade10 Developed and produced by Breitling ready for casing. And vice versa for the Tudor movement Breitling uses in the Suoerocean Heritage II - produces by Tudor for Breitling ready to case. I think in the future we see more of that after Kenissi starts producing Chanel, Tudor, Breitling and more movements.

The ébauche has been a feature of haute horlogerie for decades. The holy trinity of watches, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, and Vacheron Constantin, have all used the same Jaeger-LeCoultre movements. Indeed, arguably the finest movement ever made, the V.C. P1008/BS, was based on a JLC ébauche. This is an accepted practice. Why this should cause a furore is beyond me.

Beautiful Bremont pilot watch, I like the dial and the second at the 9 position, I like the big crown and like the display case back showing the movement with a plane propeller. I don't understand why developing a three hands watch movement cost $1 million when a watch movement made of gears and spring is less complicated then a car engine.
@davedore6021
3 жыл бұрын
Two things irk me about Bremont, firstly although the watches are undoubtably of a good quality, there is far too much emphasis placed on selling them ‘as a piece of British history’...putting a bit of Concord/Spitfire/Wright into the watch infers the watch is both historical and British which which clearly isn’t true, further to that the factory in its new incarnation is placed in one of the most expensive areas in England, if it were to be re-located up North and the prices dropped accordingly then they would be more competitive against stiffJapanese/Swiss competition.

Here is all that is required in a pilot's watch; GMT timekeeping. 12 hour timekeeping with a quickly resettable hour hand for changing local time. The date. Accuracy. Best I've found so far is the GS SBGE001. My Rolexes weren't very accurate and my Omegas broke too often. All the other frippery on supposed pilot's watches is just silliness given what the twist of a knob will bring up on your GPS.

Hey watch elitists, Rolex movements have always been made by Aegler watchmaking company. This changed in 2004 when Rolex acquired Aegler, thus making their movements "in-house". I hope you don't have a crisis with this information.

I tease myself asking if, like in coins collectionism where a flaw, due to a printing error for istance, enhance its value, also watches can be valued as more rare and perhaps unique for something as deplorable as an invalid "inhouse movement" declaration. I may be naive, but as someone whose not that fan of Bremont, I'd love to hear the story of how this collection piece has originally the feature of "inhouse movement", and after looking better it received reproaches and almost made scandal, but that in the end it became a singular story capable of enriching its value. It has a very good looking style and I love the rotor in its back. Let's forget this unlucky event.

Bremont shite the bed a long time ago I don’t understand why we continue to talk about this brand as anything other than a fashion brand of Hollywood action films. The British renaissance of watchmaking is not coming through Bremont. In fact, Sinn and oris offer a better watch at a better price.

They never held a Breitling or a Tag Monaco. Or a Cartier. They don't fucking know. They don't know a fucking thing. They dont own any of these things, they've never even seen them in real life, only on their pathetic Instagram accounts. Theyve never dealt with Seiko's shit Service Center either, the worst watch servicing in the market. But they stand on their high horse, probably wearing a dog shit Orient or some 3rd hand Speedmaster that's 20 years overdo on a real service, extolling the virtues of watches they dont dream of owning.
