I’ve cycled Lejog , Wales in a day, chase the sun, etc etc. On an S-Works tarmac , some people might have a pop because I’m not fastI’m not fast and it’s an expensive bike. My money my choice. I’ve always said “one life enjoy it”. People see an E bike as cheating. But I now find myself in the position of trying to keep fit at home while I wait for a treatment plan as I’ve just been diagnosed with Stage 4 lung and bone cancer. I’m hoping I’ll be back on my S-Works tarmac, but If I do ever get back on a bike I might need an E bike to assist me. I can pick this model up a lot less than retail , but still at a big price for a bike. No doubt if I do get one , someone will have to comment on the fact I’m being assisted up a hill ,without knowing why I need assistance.. So when you next pass someone who’s slower or is on an Ebike , don’t criticise just encourage and say “keep pushing buddy”. Because there but for the grace of god go all of us. Life your life let others live theirs

@@roadcc cheers , it’s going to be a battle. I need to stay as fit as possible now. The more I look at the S-Works CREO the more it’s making sense. When I did Lejog one guy said sarcastically “Ohh that’s a big cog , what’s that one for”.. To help me on the hills but why should that concern you. I have thought about E bikes and bikes with different gear ratios, bigger gears are an assist, a motor is like extra set of gears isn’t it 🤷♂️. If that can keep me doing what I love then there’s really no price that’s too much.. Plus I can get the 2020 S-Works for 7.5k which is a deal and a half.. It pays to shop in the same store for years😍

Still a house, would you say “Oohhh nice car to a guy with a Lamborghini Aventador”. Or FFS did you know you could by 50 cars or a nice house for that price. Half the time I think it’s the green face 🤢 of pure envy because someone can’t afford it. Some people drink every night and spend hundreds a month getting pissed up. That’s their choice. One error I noted here was the statement that if you're obtaining 100% assist and you're putting out 200 watts, the motor will match your wattage at 100% of what you are putting out. This is incorrect. The percentage of assist is based on the percentage of the motor's maximum power so the motor will put out 240 watts at 100%. How much of a percentage of the motor's power is based on how you've tuned the motor with its Mission Control app. You can have the motor put out 100% (240 watts) if you put out 80 watts (or even less if you want), or have it react in some other way (with a LARGE, many thousands of possibilities, number of choices of fine tuning). As to the motor volume, it's very low but if it bothers anyone it can be brought to almost silent by simply riding in a higher gear at a lowered cadence.

> You can have the motor put out 100% (240 watts) if you put out 80 watts (or even less if you want) no you can't. that's true of the more powerful Brose motors where assistance goes up to 300%, but not of this one. 1:1 is the maximum assistance available.

@@DaveAtkinson If you use the highest setting it will operate at 100% every time it's on. Likewise, it will do so at lower settings, depending on how you've programmed it in the Mission Control app. I've spoken to Specialized and to professionals that know this system well and they've confirmed what I've stated here. Please call Specialized and find out for yourself. The percentage figure is a percentage of total maximum work from the motor.

SquiGGlez I’d say that 90% of users wouldn’t be capable of servicing it. However that has more to say about perceived difficulty than real difficulty. Dropping the battery pack, or the motor unit out of it isn’t really difficult if you’re mechanically savvy and don’t mind picking up a few specialty tools. We had one issue that required replacing the motor unit, and despite being outside warranty, specialized insisted on replacing the damaged unit at no cost so they could disassemble the unit and determine what caused the failure. What wound up being the issue was the tensioner first the belt inside the motor, which if the parts were available I wouldn’t have been opposed to just doing myself.

Sills: It's, technically, a pedelec which is an e-bike that ONLY works as a percentage of what you've programmed it to assist. So, with your acoustic bicycle you may be riding at, say, 150 watts and traveling at 18 mph. With a pedelec, you may be riding at the same 150 watts but, depending on the level of assist you programmed, may be traveling at 22 or 23 mph. A cyclist needs many skills, as well as a certain level of wattage performance. Either way, a cyclist has to pedal to go forward. This pedelec does not have a throttle so the user must peddle to make it work. You need skill to peddle this unit to 25 mph or even 18 mph, and for some distance. That skill is what defines a cyclist. I know quite a few acoustic riders who are far below my criteria of being called a cyclist, in terms of their skillful use of their bicycle or pedelec. Note, too, that you can program it to not assist at all, in which case you have a finely engineered road bicycle that weighs 27+ lbs.
